Transgender?[edit]

I'm unclear how this Manga is considered "transgender and transsexual related"? I can see how it *might* be, but there is no information and no references in the article that back that up. -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 18:36, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Ebihara article briefly discusses one of the characters, Kira, as being "a hermaphrodite carrying XXY genes...The child is simply accepted as a boy by the appearance of her genitalia." and later "Kira, a hermaphrodite, has a chance of becoming pregnant and thus offers to those around her a hope of regeneration", and says that Meyard is of "ambiguous gender, just like Kira". I'm not entirely up on the LGBT terminology and my familiarity with Marginal is limited, but I feel that there's something in the story that can't be explained by "homosexuality" or shonen-ai/yaoi/Boys Love, and is better suited to being in the transgender category. --Malkinann (talk) 10:04, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I missed the hermaphroditic character - thanks for pointing that out. I'm still concerned that it's only one character, but the subject does seem somehow LGBT related, so no prob. :) -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 18:52, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Kira seems to be one of the main characters, and there are plenty of other works in the transgender category which only have one transgender character. Rose of Versailles, Girl Got Game, and W Juliet spring to mind. Ebihara also points out that Meyard takes " female hormones he has been given as a treatment for his serious disease [which] has turned his body partially feminine". Earth is comprised solely of males, has been for so long that there's no concept of women as being mates, and in that culture "men take post-pubescent boys to be both their lovers and apprentices.", the shonen-ai in the work, which strengthens its LGBT claims. --Malkinann (talk) 20:17, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
