recirculation[edit]

i read something today about 1.1 billion that's going to be earmarked for a freshwater circulation project that's will begin when the barrage is complete. The idea is to keep the water flowing, i'm not sure of the details. A more detailed article is needed. DaronDierkes (talk) 05:59, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There will always be water flowing, as rain falling in 15% of Singapores area will drain into this reservoir. To keep the level stable, water thus must leave the system. At low tide, floodgates allow water to be drained to sea, alternatively, at high tide pumps can remove excess water to sea. And of course water will renew as part of what enters as rain will be removed when being transformed into potable water and pumped into the cities water supply.

As a whole, the project resembles (although implemented at a much smaller scale) the 32 km long "Afsluitdijk" project of the 1930s that transformed an 1100 km2 internal sea in the Netherlands into a huge freshwater reservoir (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afsluitdijk) with basically the same three functions: providing fresh water for the countries water supply, protect inland areas from flooding and provide a huge recreational area. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.129.197.25 (talk) 13:50, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Location[edit]

The location has just been edited to the western end of the structure, rather than the centre point. Does anyone else have an opinion on this? Is there a standard convention on Wikipedia? Gareth Jones (talk) 12:46, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
