Wiki Education assignment: Introduction to Policy Analysis[edit]

This article was the subject of a Wiki Education Foundation-supported course assignment, between 28 March 2022 and 30 May 2022. Further details are available on the course page. Student editor(s): ALRueger, Spacepiece, K1carter (article contribs).

Critique on Article: Initial Recommendations

Content
It seems that a large amount of content was added to this article but never completed. Multiple sections of the text are either missing references entirely or are cited to dead links. Current content additions are needed. Grammatical errors need to be edited as well, although this is not a major problem. A gossipy tone permeates the article which points to biased content.
Lawsuits Section
This section is disruptive and confusing as it is overly detailed and biased in tone. No citations are listed in this section of multiple paragraphs. This section needs to be fact-checked, rewritten, and citations added.
References Section
References with correct and live links are numbers 1,3,4,6,7,8,9,11,15,16, and 21. As such, the article contains multiple inline references to bad links that should be either removed or edited. Many links seem outdated as well as multiple links resulting in 404 error messages, or are legacy links found via the Wayback Machine in need of an update. Some links are to blog articles that are not appropriate or reliable sources per Wikipedia rules and as such should be omitted.
External References Section
This section is unusable and must be updated in its entirety. There are multiple bad links with 404 error messages, outdated legacy links, and other links that need to be either updated or omitted.
Plagiarism
Close paraphrasing is not apparent, but further investigation through comparisons to verifiable, nonbiased sources is required during content review and reference link updating to clearly understand the extent of plagiarism in this article.

More sections?[edit]

I think there should always be sections that can give insight on improvement and there are plenty of articles about what it would take to do that in different categories. I have one on fishery spaces and how making sure spacing is prioritized, but also thtat the spaces have actions to make sure they stay protected. https://nyaspubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/nyas.14651 — Preceding unsigned comment added by K1carter (talkcontribs) 23:25, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Lead Section[edit]

The introduction or lead section of the article is somewhat sparse in providing an explanation of the distinguishing features of the Marine Life Protection Act and its plans to address the shortcomings of previously established Marine Protected Areas in California. --ALRueger (talk) 02:54, 26 April 2022 (UTC)ALRueger[reply]

MLPA Implementation Section[edit]

There are multiple instances of missing citations in this section. Especially noticeable lack of citations are found towards the end of the Marine Life Protection Act Implementation section, where a lot of information is provided about specific events and data that have no supporting peer reviewed publications to verify their credibility.--ALRueger (talk) 02:55, 26 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The Science Section[edit]

This section of the article is where I expected to see the utilization of a lot more research. This would improve the overall credibility and support the need for the Marine Life Protection Act. Additionally, the sources being used are now outdated and more recent scientific evidence is necessary. --ALRueger (talk) 02:58, 26 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
