Biggest upset?

[edit]

The match was undoubtedly the biggest upset of the 2007 Championships. ........Really??? Right Blank 18:21, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is one of the biggest upsets in modern Wimbledon history. All the press before the tournament was Henin vs. Serena as de facto final, after she beat Serena this was seen as Justine's year. Now she has been stopped by a woman who has had her two-handed style queried and her body shape mocked.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/6278644.stm - respectable news source calling it a big upset.

That picture from Wimbledon isn't good enough, you can't see her face.

Official Site?

[edit]

I am debating whether or not the page in the external links indicated as such is actually Marion Bartoli's official web site. If you go to the actual site, it says that it is a site "Dedicated to Marion Bartoli" In addition, Googling her name, the site in question comes up, and its description is the following: "A fanpage that includes news, photos, biography, forum, results and rankings."

I am going to change it to indicate it to be a fan site, not her official site, which is actually http://www.marionbartoli.com/. It has a link to the fan site, so I will notate that as well.

"Bartoli is also unique in that she doesn't bounce the ball before her serve."

[edit]

"Bartoli is also unique in that she doesn't bounce the ball before her serve."

I see her bouncing the ball 2x in her latest match against Venus 8/2/09. I guess she is no longer unique in that aspect.
Yeah, saw a couple of Bartoli bounces recently myself too. Well, you can then say that she "almost never bounces the ball before serving" or maybe "the WTA player with the least number of bounces before a serve per match". :) Naki (talk) 19:10, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
she is unique too becose she is big fixer in WTA
Whoever you are, do you refer to match fixing? Do you have any support for these claims? Naki (talk) 19:41, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"unlike Seles, Bartoli is right-handed"

[edit]

Bartoli plays right-handed, as far as serve is concerned, but I notice that she signs autographs with her left hand. Perhaps this should be mentioned in the article. 137.108.145.250 (talk) 10:46, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

IQ of 175

[edit]

While the article says that "she has told the press she had an IQ of 175" this claim is so improbable and borderline ridiculous that it shouldn't even be mentioned among her personal facts. An IQ of 175 occurs in one in every 3.4 million people so I think the inclusion of such an extraordinary claim should either require more evidence than some sentence from a press conference or be moved to the (non-existent) Controversy section.

Someone should rewrite it to indicate that she liked math or something. I wont't remove the above yet, giving it a couple of days.81.183.86.210 (talk) 21:40, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

She tested her IQ at an age of about 9-10 years old. So it is possible. Obviously, she did not ever test her IQ again when older, so this high IQ does not mean much. Naki (talk) 19:39, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Excessive Detail?

[edit]

Anybody else think the year-by-year account of virtually every match played in a tournament is excessive?

Either it is information best served in table format rather than huge walls of text, or it should be trimmed to just the most pertinent details i.e. placement in tournaments as a whole rather than each match in the tournament.

As it is, it's inaccessible to the average reader. 77.99.12.140 (talk) 12:54, 4 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I've removed a good deal of text describing non-notable performances (i.e. losses in early rounds of minor tournaments), plus all the scores (which contravene the guidance in WP:TENSCR). I think it still needs further reducing, as well as summarising. But it's now a lot better than it was. PaleCloudedWhite (talk) 00:22, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Role Model

[edit]

'Her role model off the court is Mahatma Gandhi.' Is this a joke? Or does she live on an ashram and has renounced all possessions and sexual activity?

Template

[edit]

I see this template Top ten European female singles tennis players as of 10 June 2013 but didn't see her name...--Billymac00 (talk) 22:15, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

IQ of 175 revisited?

[edit]
  • Like many outliers, this seems to be down to human error. She is quoted by the Italian newspaper La Repubblica today as saying [1] (last para):
When I was 9, I was thought to have an IQ of 175—higher than Einstein. In reality, the person who administered the test made a blunder. On retaking it the result was completely different. I'm not a genius, I make millions of silly mistakes. But I've won Wimbledon and I still can't believe it.
I think this can be considered a reliable source and that the information should be incorporated into this BLP page, especially given that Wikipedia's take on this one is being quoted in the press. 86.161.251.139 (talk) 17:55, 7 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The prominence given to the original anecdote here is (and was I'd say) clearly UNDUE. 86.161.251.139 (talk) 09:49, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Given two contradictory sources, I think all we can do is remove this for now, which I've done. As La Repubblica is more recent, and explains the earlier statement, I'd take it as more authoritative, but I can't really see any point in mentioning it at all - it now becomes nothing more than an anecdote about a past error. AndyTheGrump (talk) 13:56, 10 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Agree. Thanks, 86.161.251.139 (talk) 14:06, 10 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
