BAFTA

I've found something wrong here (I think) it's said "Cotillard, on February 10, 2008, became the first French actress to be awarded the BAFTA for Best Actress in a Leading Role." but Jeanne Moreau Won it in 1966 for "Viva Maria!" so Marion Cotillard is not the first French actress... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.219.178.93 (talk) 23:34, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

The comment needs to be qualified. Beginning in 1969, BAFTA combined two separate awards - Best British Actress and Best Foreign Actress, and began to only award on Best Actress. Moreau won the Best Foreign Actress. I'll fix that. Wildhartlivie (talk) 07:54, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

French Academy Award winners

Cotillard is the third French actress to win an Oscar for Best Actress. Claudette Colbert was French, although she became an American citizen later in her life (after her win in 1934). Colbert grew up in New York City as small child, although French descent. She was naturalized in the US for school days. 9/11 Comments

(Ooops I guess I should've added my comments here instead of creating another discussion, blame it on me being new :\ The current "apology/retraction" section of this wikipedia entry seems grossly inaccurate as apparently several major news sources claimed that the actress had apologized and retracted her original statements, cleverly editing quotes from both herself and her lawyer. The full quotations however, appearing in other news sources, show that she has not retracted her statements and has not apologized.

This section certainly needs to be revised to include the discrepancies made by mainstream media printing inaccurate stories of her retraction, the accurate coverage of her refusing to retract the statements, the vastness of the public debate and controversy regarding her refusal (and the original comments), and (of course) the actual facts about her standing by her original views.

A simple google search for "Marion Cotillard apology for 9/11 comments" will dredge up piles of data refuting the current "Controversy" section information. Thanks Pr0t0wiki (talk) 17:57, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

There certainly are plenty of Google hits, but considering her upcoming roles in two high budget US projects, her career seems not to have suffered from her remarks. I wonder if the passage of time has diminished the importance of this section within her career story and that it now reads as WP:UNDUE? Is it possible to abbreviate it? One interview and the brief contraversy that followed it, seems to be overshadowing her notability as an actress in this article in a way that it does not do in the context of her overall career, and in reporting her career we need to be striking the correct balance. I'm not quite sure what the balance should be, and I don't suggest it should be removed entirely, but I think it could be toned down so it doesn't dominate. Oscars are awards among others. They are given by the members of an American Academy. As far as I know, their choice doesn't involve the rest of the world. When an actor/actress gets US's Oscar AND UK's Bafta AND French César AND elsewhere's so on awards... it gives another dimension to his/her international acknowledgment as an actor/actress. This is a duplicate discussion topic and should be removed.

As a French actress the Cesar is perhaps of more significance to her, but in any case, the whole focus should not be on this one role no matter how many awards she won. I've rewritten the lead to try to act more as a summary of the article and include a couple of her other notable roles, including an earlier one that also brought her a Cesar Award. Featured articles such as Reese Witherspoon mention the awards in the lead section (not necessarily in the first sentence) and place the award into the context of the overall career, which is what I've tried to do here. Biased Comment?

To be respectful and brief, under the "Career" section is a bullet preceding these words: "One fact is for certain, with Marion Cotillard having won the Academy Award for Best Actress on Febraury 24th, 2008, her entire career has changed irrevocably and she is destined to become a legend, as Simone Signoret is, in France because of it."

Occupation edits?

Prior to the recent vandalism, her Infobox occupation was listed as "Actress, singer". As part of the vandalism, the occupation was modified, deleted, and then rewritten and finally modified several times, so that it now reads "Singer, actress".

Since she is mostly or firstly known as an actress (and, indeed, "actress" is listed first in the intro paragraph), shouldn't the Infobox occupation also be restored to "Actress, singer" as it was pre-vandalism? 209.179.74.122 (talk) 04:47, 21 September 2016 (UTC)

Edit request for inaccurate information on Marion Cotillard's mother origins.

Niseema (AKA Monique) Theillaud, Marion Cotillard's mother has no Kabyle origin. This error was introduced by the unreliable and inaccurate tabloid sources https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gala_(magazine) WP:PUS. This error result from poor journalism purely based on Monique Theillaud's alias name Niseema that may come up as a Kabyle name in some Google searches. Her alias was given to her by a spiritual master "un prénom donné par un maître en recherches spirituelles" Potdevin, Pascaline (20 May 2020). "Qui est Niseema Theillaud, mère, guide et soutien de Marion Cotillard ?" [Who is Niseema Theillaud, mother, guide and support of Marion Cotillard?]. Madame Le Figaro (in French). Prior to the Gala Magazine article there are no mentions of Niseema Theillaud's origin. Unfortunately, many magazines and news outlets duplicated this incorrect information without verifying its accuracy. Guidance in removing inaccurate information

I have tried to find the appropriate way to get an inaccuracy corrected on this page but it was either removed(reverted) or ignored. Marion's mother Niseema Theillaud is not of Kabyle origin. The sources used to justify all this comes from an original article from a French tabloid Gala (magazine) which a gossip tabloid. Using tabloid or poor journalism Wikipedia:Reliable sources is against Wikipedia policy. All subsequent article used as source used the original Gala (magazine) article as the source which is poor journalism. The true meaning of Niseema is a name given to her by the spiritual leader Rajneesh. This source comes from the reputable and quality journalism French news paper Libération https://www.liberation.fr/portrait/2006/02/09/edith-donc_29325/. I made changes to correct inaccurate information on Wikipedia, but later was informed by a wikipedia user who removed my correction, that it was a Conflict of interest due to my personal relationship with the subject of the article. I am currently seeking a solution to address this inaccuracy in order to maintain Wikipedia's reputation as a reliable source of information. As previously stated, the error was initially caused by poor journalism from a tabloid source, which relied on a quick web search and incorrect spelling of a similar name instead of proper research. If I am unable to edit due to a Conflict of interest, it is important to ensure that Wikipedia articles do not rely on unreliable sources, such as tabloids or gossip magazines, to avoid a double standard in the application of Wikipedia's guidelines. @Cotillardq: If you have a conflict of interest, the best approach is to make an {{edit request}} here on the talk page. There is a wizard available to make this a little easier: WP:Edit Request wizard - remember to be very clear about what should be removed and why (saying that the source is unreliable may be enough) and, when requesting new or replacement material, be sure to include a pointer to the published source that can verify the information.
