Shooting[edit]

What we have here now is fine for content on this. It's the subject of its own article and the larger picture belongs there. Obviously if the death toll changes, that should be updated, but only when major sources are in agreement.

The shooter's name has been repeatedly added to the notable list. That shouldn't happen. Committing a notable crime does not automatically elevate the criminal committing it to notability. Since he survived, it's likely he will become notable, but until we have an article on him, he shouldn't be in the notable list. Until someone creates a WP:GNG bio on him, we are required to assume he isn't notable per WP:BLP1E. John from Idegon (talk) 01:46, 15 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The "Notable Alumni" Section is sparse. There are significantly more alumni with public profiles. In the aftermath of the shooting, it is important that organizations can leverage these contacts for activism. Example: Missing: Richard Aberman (just sold his company WePay for over 200 million less than 1 year ago) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WePay https://www.linkedin.com/in/richaberman/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:58C:C580:D40:1520:2D0D:667B:AF69 (talk) 04:41, 16 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No wikipedia article exists for Aberman at this time, additionally I could locate no source that shows that the Aberman you mentioned is the one who attended the school. There is a Richard Aberman mentioned in an article in the Sun-Sentinel but nothing to link that Richard with the one who works at WePay. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. WP:RIGHTGREATWRONGS applies. We are not here to leverage anything. John from Idegon (talk) 18:41, 16 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The 17 victims should be added to notable alumni. They shouldn't be labeled as victims, they are heroes. DO NOT LET THE SHOOTER'S NAME BE REMEMBERED!

Alyssa Alhadeff, 14 Scott Beigel, 35 Martin Duque Anguiano, 14 Nicholas Dworet, 17 Aaron Feis, 37 Jaime Guttenberg, 14 Chris Hixon, 49 Luke Hoyer, 15 Cara Loughran, 14 Gina Montalto, 14 Joaquin Oliver, 17 Alaina Petty, 14 Meadow Pollack, 18 Helena Ramsay, 17 Alex Schachter, 14 Carmen Schentrup, 16 Peter Wang, 15 For the past 12 years, my teachers told me that tragedies like this never happen here - but it did.

Sromagosa (talk) 14:33, 17 February 2018 (UTC) Sorry to hear of the deaths. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cranberry18 (talkcontribs) 06:44, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

My prayers are with you all, but this isn't the place to memorialize anyone. We do not discuss students or staff by name in school articles, unless their fame extends beyond the school to the point where they would have a biographical article on Wikipedia. At this point, that applies to all the victims and the shooter. Unfortunately, that may at some point change for the shooter. Further, as much as my heart goes out to the people associated with this school and the unspeakable pain you must be in, this talk page is not a place to advocate for victims rights. This isn't social media, and this encyclopedia article is not the school's "page" on Wikipedia. Frankly, no Wikipedian wants to cause anyone associated with the events at this school more pain, and dealing with the rather complicated process of creating neutral and verifiable encyclopedia content about the event would quite likely do that. Please keep that in mind if you are connected with this school. My prayers are with you and your neighbors. John from Idegon (talk) 15:31, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Naming the Shooter[edit]

People have been trying to add the shooters name to this article, I believe it isn't required and WP:NOTNEWS. He isn't notable and if they want to read about who the shooter was, they will click on the link and read that article. It really should only be a passing mention on this page. NZFC(talk) 20:48, 19 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Per school article guidelines, we do not discuss non notable students. Although I don't think NOTNEWS applies, RECENT and WEIGHT both do. The shooting has its own article and the see also link is sufficient. And in case people aren't clear, the shooter isn't notable per BLP1E. Since he survived, that may change, at which time, his name should be added only in the notable alumni section (and yes, per Wikipedia's definition, he is an alumni). Details of the shooting, including the shooter's name, belong in the linked crime article. John from Idegon (talk) 21:06, 19 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, and I think everyone who achieved notoriety from the shooting, even those with articles, should continue to be omitted from the article, as the shooting itself already has a devoted section. Keep things in perspective. --Animalparty! (talk) 01:14, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
His name was added, stayed for a time and was then removed saying he was "non-notable," all while ALL of the "March for Our Lives" founders are included for their notoriety, which stems (aside from Hogg) largely from the group itself, not from their personal notoriety. Whether the students of the school like it or not, Cruz is a notable alumni of the school in the same way the the Columbine killers are notable alumni of that school and the Boston Marathon Bombing perpetrator is a notable alumni of his college. 107.91.6.66 (talk) 21:09, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Under notable alumni, please add: Jared Moskowitz, Florida State Representative (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jared_Moskowitz) Evan Golden, TV Personality (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evan_Golden) Rmackman (talk) 18:17, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Add information shown in ( https://web.archive.org/web/20170311104648/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marjory_Stoneman_Douglas_High_School ) as it contains positive information about the school. I am a student at MSD and this page is completely bashing the school. Why is there no positive information about the school? Why has it been removed?

  • Not done - the information that was previously on the page was all removed as it was unsourced. If you want it added back in, you will have to provide reliable sources for the information. NZFC(talk) 01:39, 12 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
