Notability[edit]

Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Creative professionals says such a person is notable if:

  1. The person is regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by peers or successors; or
  2. The person is known for originating a significant new concept, theory, or technique; or
  3. The person has created or played a major role in co-creating a significant or well-known work or collective body of work. In addition, such work must have been the primary subject of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews, or of an independent and notable work (for example, a book, film, or television series, but usually not a single episode of a television series); or
  4. The person's work (or works) has: (a) become a significant monument, (b) been a substantial part of a significant exhibition, (c) won significant critical attention, or (d) been represented within the permanent collections of several notable galleries or museums.

I thought I covered all these points in the article I drafted. Maassen does not have the stature of Barbara Walters or Fred W. Friendly, but he has been recognized by his peers as witnessed by his recent election as President of Newspaper Association Managers. I found publications in three different states (Wisconsin, Arkansas, and Florida) reporting on his election. I probably could have found more, but

Journalists from the Missouri Independent and RJI News saw fit to quote him in articles dealing with the future of local news. The organization of which he is the executive director, Missouri Press Association, recently announced a program awarding scholarships to journalism students who promise to work for at least 2 years after graduating for a local newspaper in Missouri, as documented with an appropriate citation in the article.

The Missouri Independent also quoted him in a report about the threat by Missouri Governor Mike Parson to prosecute a journalist who found a security flaw in the state's website, reported it to the state while saying he would wait for the state to fix that security flaw.<ref>I agree with Maassen: Would the Governor rather keep the security flaw open to criminal elements or have an honest journalist report it responsibly? This may not relate to notability, except that it is a hot issue, and Maassen was interviewed about it. I just added a citation to an article in The New York Times that also quoted Maassen about that incident.

AND I added a link to this new article from the previously existing article on the Missouri Press Association and deleted the "orphan" flag. I hope you agree that it's no longer an "orphan".

I expect to have more in the next few days. DavidMCEddy (talk) 15:12, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DavidMCEddy. The lead indicates that he is a business executive. Could you please elaborate on how he fits into the criteria outlined for creative professionals? The news of his election as the President of Newspaper Association Manager counts as a singular event and I believe it does not matter how many publications cover it. @Jeraxmoira: I struggled with what to call him. He has a Bachelor of Journalism (BJ) and worked first in newspaper advertising and later as a manager in the Kansas City Star. One primary function of the Missouri Press Association is to facilitate connections between newspapers that are members of the Missouri Press Association and major advertisers, who might like to place ads in multiple outlets. Since graduating from college, his career has been in the news business, mostly as in advertising and management but also as a journalist. Is there a better way to describe him? As far as I can see, BLP needs to to fulfill WP:ANYBIO or WP:NBASIC. It will not survive an AfD at this point.
What do you mean by I expect to have more in the next few days.? Jeraxmoira (talk) 19:36, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
