Liberal?[edit]

The Ultimates has a "liberal-based plot"? Where did that come from? The demiurge 02:50, July 13, 2005 (UTC)

I believe the comment was suppose to cover Millar's overall writing style. and in effect bring the thought of his background dealing with solicalist - his father - as an influence for his writing, although in Superman: Red Son he seem to illustrait a sort of anti-socialist view on that Elseworld title. However his portrayal of Captain America is not a rabbid Right Winger he is probably the closest to one as Millar could stand to get to. I mean anyone who try and censors naked pictures of Lindsey Lohan off the internet must rub Millar the wrong way (reference recent article from Wizard Magazine on Millar and Hitch).

Captain America is not and has never been a Right winger. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.204.8.51 (talk) 01:09, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It depends on the writer. 65.183.214.150 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 23:34, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Arranged Marriage[edit]

Please provide a link for the claim that Millar has had an arranged marriage. This seems utterly insane and I suspect that this is a joke. Also please provide a reference for the Ken Livingstone comment. Otherwise, I shall delete both of these at the end of this week. Thanks Vizjim 18:10, 2 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Millar's arranged marriage is a matter of verifiable fact and is an interesting aspect to his life. It makes the reading of 'Chosen' much more enlightening.

As Vizjim requested, please provide a link or a proper citation for that claim. -- markus n 10:36, 8 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Look, the sum totality of human knowledge is not contained on the internet. I know this fact to be true. Not every single word on Wiki can be backed up by another link. Now this will be the 'source' for other people wanting to prove this fact. It is true. It is important. Millar often makes bold claims and issue out of his religion. This is an aspect of his religion. It is true - it remains.

At least tell us how you know it, maybe? And which religion are you thinking of? I understood (though I may be wrong) that he was brought up a Catholic - not a religion famed for its arranged marriages... Vizjim 18:56, 9 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

George Galloway[edit]

There is nothing about Ken Livingstone in the bio. There is something about George Galloway though, which can be verified by reading either published issue of Unfunnies.

Troy Hicks, the only human character in the Unfunnies doesn't bare much more than a superficial resemblance to George Galloway. I don't see this as any form of verification as Galloway isn't the only person in the world with a moustache. Stx 09:37, 9 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
IT is a photograph of George Galloway being used. A photograph. Come on!

There are 5 or 6 different photographs of a man not entirely dissimilar to George Galloway through the two published comics, but I disgree with your assertation that it is him. Also, it's not an uncommon look for males of that age and stature in the west of Scotland. Stx 10:40, 9 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think you understand. They are photographs of Galloway. If you use Google Search, they are the photographs you find. It is categorically Galloway.
The final page of Unfunnies #2 depicts the Troy character holding a shotgun, but I cannot find a corresponding image of Galloway using Google image search. For such a noted antiwar campaigner, I'm surprised no-one has a reference to the image in question if it is indeed him. Stx 15:33, 9 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Informercial[edit]

Please keep the marketing maelstorm out of encyclopaedic material...

Some of the article parts read like a used car sales man, particularly the ones that keep repeating is an awesome, amazing, lauded, spectacular, most popular, everything of comics or the internet.

He's not particularly Jack Kirby ya know...

Millar is all about the self promotion. But zero chance of getting that onto this page. Even with citations his fanboy army kept deleting. sigh. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.68.249.128 (talk) 21:30, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Video Games are for Pedophiles? And other comments[edit]

http://kotaku.com/gaming/mark-miller/marvel-comic-writer-games-are-for-pedophiles-240281.php

Do you think this is worth mentioning? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mavrickindigo (talkcontribs) 19:53, 2 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

I'm certainly willing to rip him a new one over that. I found it very offensive, being a gamer.--71.156.60.219 07:07, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's definitely worth mentioning, especially considering this link where he says a lot more on the subject just underneath the picture of his game systems. (I'd edit it myself but I'm still trying to lurk and learn). DocRiff 11:24, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Related: http://forums.millarworld.tv/index.php?showtopic=83636 This is a post by Miller himself where he talks about the LHC. "Where the fuck is James Bond and why isn't he KILLING these French fucks before they even push the button?" also, "Europeans creep me out, but none more so than Euro-SCIENTISTS. I declare a Jihad on all these boffins who risk reality itself in the name of their curiosity. No wonder Pol Pot killed everyone who wore glasses." It might be worth putting something in the article about his, um, excessive comments. Seer (talk) 02:08, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think that there's definately scope to mention these comments. I don't have a link onhand, but I think that his 'idea' for a story about Wonder Woman being raped is also worth including. His online presence is significant to his career and the way that he is perceived by the comics community as a whole. Euchrid (talk) 16:34, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Negative Statements[edit]

Please remember that if you are saying something negative about someone you're going to need a cite for it, as per WP:BLP. "The other links support it" doesn't cut it. And yes, critical comments *are* held to a huigher standard than onesin praise, again see WP:BLP. Also even if you have a cite theres a possibility that your comment might be deleted anyway, due to issues of tone and weighting. Again reading WP:BLP will help you make best judgement on that.

Thank you

To what level is Millar involved with the Youngblood Bloodsport Comics? It's content is very trash but it has Millar's name on it? Did he write it? Plot it? Or just gave pointers to Liefeld to make the comic?

Fair use rationale for Image:Ultimates1.jpg[edit]

Image:Ultimates1.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

WikiProject Comics B-Class Assesment required[edit]

This article needs the B-Class checklist filled in to remain a B-Class article for the Comics WikiProject. If the checklist is not filled in by 7th August this article will be re-assessed as C-Class. The checklist should be filled out referencing the guidance given at Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment/B-Class criteria. For further details please contact the Comics WikiProject. He was born in 69 not 72[edit]

The source provided for Millars birth clearily says that he was born in 1969. Unless the anon editor can provide a source that contradicts this then he/she should stop adding back information that is innacurate. At least give an explanation on the talk page of why you feel he was born in 72 instead of just madly reverting it.annoynmous 19:35, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mark Millar, date of birth incorrect.[edit]

Hello.

Mark Millar's year of birh was 1972 according to his bio on his website (http://www.millarworld.tv/bio.html), not 1969. Is there any way this can be changed?

thank you

Maiatzm. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Maiatzm (talkcontribs) 15:21, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The source being used for 1969 is the comicbookdb and we should avoid using such tertiary sources as direct references for anything (although they are useful for general ones to support publication details) - see what I wrote here on the usage of such sources. It should never be used for biographical information as a) it is unsourced and b) it usually draws that information from here (in fact users occasionally just dump the biography form here in there with no credit and this should be reported if you see it as it violates their policies - they may as well save themselves the effort and add a link here instead). So we should remove the 1969 dob and replace it with 1972 sourced to the individual - it is oretty clear cut unless anyone has another reliable source for the dob that suggests he is lying about his age (which I might imagine could happen with aging actresses but here?). The comicbookdb link should be returned to the general "References" section. I will make these changes in the next day or so (and hopefully we can unprotect the article again) unless someone has a good source which says something different. (Emperor (talk) 04:58, 6 October 2009 (UTC))[reply]
OK I've made those changes. I won't unprotect it as I'll see if anyone objects to that but I am on pretty solid ground. (Emperor (talk) 01:23, 7 December 2009 (UTC))[reply]
This from the Bio section of his official page:

Multi award-winning writer Mark Millar has revamped the X-Men, broke Spider-Man sales records, brought the Fantastic Four into the 21st Century and made Superman a communist. He is also the writer of the US industry's biggest-selling comic book of the past decade, Marvel's Civil War, published in 2007. His Wanted comic series was the industry's biggest-selling creator-owned book of the last ten years until he smashed his own record with Kick-Ass, each issue selling more than Spider-Man and X-Men from issue one with an unprecedented five printings every issue. Both properties were sold as movies before the first issue hit the stands and everything Millar has ever created is in various stages of theatrical development. Wanted starred Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy. Kick-Ass stars actor Nicolas Cage.

Outside comics, Millar has been praised by Marvel Studios and screenwriter Zak Penn for creating the template for their 2008-2012 line-up of movies, their 2011 and 2012 Captain America and The Avengers movies based on Millar's Ultimates monthly series. He cast Samuel L Jackson as the leader of this super-team and his influence extends into every Marvel movie on their upcoming slate. Although busy creating his own movies and comic-books now at Millarworld, Millar remains under contract at Marvel to write their most high-profile projects.

As you can see there is nothing in this section saying he was born in 1972. The only source for his age that has been given so far is for 1969. Not one solid source has been given for this 1972 claim and until someone can find one it should remain 1969. annoynmous 09:36, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Now here is an odd thing. His bio did indeed say he was born in 1972 when we had this debate. Looking at the page now he has stripped a lot of information out of it. Soooooo I thought I'd dig the earlier version out of the Internet Archive but it hasn't been updated since 2008. However, it is clear from that [1] that he did indeed give his birthday as 1969 but seems to have changed it to 1972 since the last time his site was indexed. So it appears the assumption that he'd be the best person to know his birthday may have been a little undermined and it is indeed 1969. (Emperor (talk) 02:38, 4 March 2010 (UTC))[reply]

Best selling British comic-book writer??[edit]

1) He's not British. 2) No citation. 3) Can't find a source. Therefore, it should be removed.

Done, along with a lot of other unsourced material. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 03:22, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

'Hollywood comic writer backs Salmond'[edit]

"Mark Millar, the Hollywood comic book writer behind hits like Kick-Ass, has backed Alex Salmond and the SNP in the Holyrood election. Millar, 40, from Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, said: "He is the best in the country - and I am including Westminster. He is a guy you want in charge." ", The Scotsman, 14 April 2011 --Mais oui! (talk) 11:36, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Themes[edit]

There's a distinct theme running through Millar's work, blurring the boundaries of fictional worlds. Characters interact with comics within the narrative universe (Marvel 1985), break the 4th wall to address the reader (Wanted) or take inspiration from comics or films (Kick-Ass, Nemesis).

No reference but it's there in his books, particularly in Millarworld.

Valid material? —Preceding unsigned comment added by GS(v) (talkcontribs) 20:50, 10 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Consultant at Fox pictures[edit]

Any information regarding his induction as a consultant on the future marvel films at Fox? this is his current status. and needs to be updated, whether you hate him or not. this is Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.155.153.154 (talk) 07:29, 1 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There's no information regarding him being a consultant for Fox's "MCU", although it's been said that he is indeed one of their creative force behind making a coherent Universe of films that are connected. How come this is still not stated? There are multiple sources to back up this fact. 71.188.17.123 (talk) 06:59, 15 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox photo[edit]

I've recently taken a bunch of photos of Millar, including three portrait shots. However, he is not in formal wear as he was in the October 2010 photo that is currently in the Infobox. Should we change it to one of the new ones, or keep the old one? It's not like his appearance has changed all that much in three years. Nightscream (talk) 06:53, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I like the current photo, as the subject stands out better. SeaphotoTalk 14:55, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I actually like the current one as well. Less background noise, and, more subjectively, his expression seems more natural. Why mess with a good thing?   : )   —Tenebrae (talk) 17:04, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Credit for Avengers film[edit]

Would it be correct to give Mark Millar some credit for the 2012 Avengers film? There are elements taken from the Ultimates: Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, SHIELD putting the team together, and battling the Chitauri. It's not a direct adaptation, but neither was Captain America: Civil War nor will Logan be exactly like Old Man Logan. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.81.156.221 (talk) 02:00, 14 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Millarworld to be a standalone article[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

This is a discussion to decide whether Millarworld should be a separate article from Mark Millar. Personally, I am in support of this as Netflix has just acquired the company. Inevitably, future information about Millarworld will be less about Mark Millar's involvement with the company, and more about Netflix's influence in developing the company to fit within the Netflix brand. Iftekharahmed96 (talk) 11:43, 9 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Seems a logical next step. Artw (talk) 13:24, 9 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like we have two people in agreement so far, I'll conduct the article split if one more person agrees to this proposition. Iftekharahmed96 (talk) 16:18, 9 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I dunno: Since Millarworld is all written by Millar and isn't publishing anything not by Millar, I think there'd be a lot of overlap and repeated material. We don't really have separate articles for Lauren Shuler Donner and The Donners' Company . --Tenebrae (talk) 22:32, 10 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
We can just transfer all of the information about Millarworld from the Mark Millar page into the Millarworld article. Mark Millar still makes headlines and conducts interviews outside of just Millarworld. Iftekharahmed96 (talk) 23:05, 10 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Only three editors seem to have commented so far. Given lack of clear consensus, I'd suggest using the procedure at Wikipedia:Splitting. That'll get a split discussion posted automatically at Category:Articles to be split from August 2017 and generate a more thorough discussion. If splitting is a good idea, it should gain consensus. Note that I'm not necessarily against the idea, but I do believe we need to have more editors than this discussing the pros and cons. --Tenebrae (talk) 17:47, 13 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've decided to split the article in advanced. The notice has been around for quite a while now, and nobody has outright contested against the split. Millarworld as a standalone article will pass notoriety, alongside this, it's easier to link it to Netflix (as Millarworld is a registered legal entity).
