RS to V
[edit]The most important principle of Wikipedia - to me at least - is that we require reliable sources to verify information, especially regarding living people. Adding unreferenced information about living people is an absolute no-no - as editors, including some long established ones who I assumed knew better, have been doing to this article. There is information about Redshaw's early life - where is that information coming from? Same goes for speculation about this player's transfer fees and contract lengths - and speculation is all it is. Other information is just plain wrong - he never appeared in the Football League for Wrexham, as confirmed by this extremely well respected source. GiantSnowman 20:54, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
Reliable sources
[edit]As pointed out immediately above, Mr Redshaw never played League football for Wrexham. His Soccerway page says he did, so although that site would normally be considered RS, we can't consider it RS for this subject. And zamante.com is a football-related social networking site. Sticking to RS independent of the subject for where he definitely has been, and working chronologically:
- youth career: he was at Wrexham in 2001 and 2002, but according to Wrexham's manager, left months before the rumours about him joining Man City for £200,000; the Wrexham manager thought he may be training at City, where his brother was; he never played for MCFC's under-19s or reserves
- Radcliffe Borough: genuine: described as a "former Manchester City, Stockport County and Wrexham youth player", or "been at Manchester City as a youngster and been on trial at Chelsea, West Brom and Stockport", in Feb 2004
- Rossendale: genuine: joined Oct 2004, and had trials in Italy in the offing
- Caernarfon: genuine: Dec 2004 "Redshaw has been at Manchester City as a youngster and been on trial at Chelsea, West Brom and Stockport County" until Jan 2005 when he apparently returned to...
- Rossendale: before a proposed return to Italy "next month"
- Triestina: can't find a contemporary source: he may have been there, but no indication of when or for how long
- LA Galaxy: no contemporary source
- Rossendale (2): genuine: returned in Sep 2007, after allegedly playing in Belgium...
- Curzon Ashton: not currently mentioned in the article, but he was there from November 2007 to at least February 2008
- Stirling Lions: genuine, from Mar/Apr to July 2008, but stats aren't; FootballWA 3.7.2008 says he scored a hat-trick on debut, but only one in the next eight games, and then left
- Ethnikos Achna: the Cyprus FA confirm no Redshaw played for their first team in the 2008/09 season; some sources have him at Ethnikos Assias, not Achna: if he was, the Cyprus FA confirms he never scored for them
- Ethnikos Piraeus: genuinely there, but the stats aren't first team league appearances: Greek Football League website confirms his arriving at end Jan 2009, making a single appearance without scoring, and a couple of unused subs; club site confirms his contract wasn't being renewed at end of season
- Real Murcia: BDfutbol confirms no Redshaw appeared for Murcia Imperial (= Murcia B) in 2009/10, El Mundo Deportivo's fully searchable archive doesn't contain the name Redshaw, and nor, according to me, HERE, did Real Murcia's squad list for its B team for 2009/10,...
- which probably explains how he was available to sign for Persitara in Indonesia in Feb 2010, only for the deal to fall through on financial grounds...
- and then training in Azerbaijan in July
- Fram: genuine: KSI confirm he was there from April to August 2011 and made a single league appearance
- FC Oss: genuine: Aug 2011 to end of season: multiple confirmations on club website and elsewhere

- Brilliant research, I'll take it all in later when I'm not at work - but we should e-mail Soccerway to advise them of their mistake (they're pretty good at rectifying) and we should definitely discount Zamante. GiantSnowman 12:25, 17 December 2012 (UTC)
- Here's the story (in Icelandic) of him signing for Fram. Translated it says that he signed from Ethnikos Piraeus, but had spent the previous season on loan at Real Murcia II. Here's another story from the following month (again in Icelandic) saying that his contract with Fram had been cancelled after they played him in the first game of the season and realised he was crap.
- He definitely never played in Belgium according to the Belgian Soccer Database, which is usually extremely accurate so I don't know where the Non League Daily have come up with that one.
- I found this article from March 2005 saying that he was on trial at Triestina, but I can't find anything that indicates he signed for them permanently.
- Can't find anything else that Struway hasn't already listed above... Cheers, BigDom (talk) 15:35, 17 December 2012 (UTC)
- Soccerway have now removed/fixed the inaccurate stats. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 11:30, 18 December 2012 (UTC)
