[edit]Marquis of Extended Grace
The Qing dynasty The Qing court emphasized that they were not conquerors but had entered China to "help" overthrow the rebel Li Zhi Cheng. They buried Emperor Chong Zhen and in 1725, appointed a member of the Ming royal family as the "Marquis of Extended Grace", 延恩侯, whose duty was to perform rituals for his imperial ancestors, the former Ming Emperors. Despite acts of goodwill, the Qing court was brutal in suppressing any challenge to their rule.

The Ming "pretender
[edit]The statement that the Ming "pretender" was executed in 1708 is really problematic. First, there is some dispute as to whether the famed 朱三太子 (third son, crown prince of the house of Zhu) is Zhu Cijiong (the actual third son) or Zhu Cihuan (the fifth son). Zhu Cihuan actually died in 1637 before the fall of the dynasty. The actual final outcome for Zhu Cijiong is not clear. In official histories, in 1708, a person whose name is actually Wang Shiyuan (王士元) was claimed by a monk to be Zhu Cihuan. This person was familially exterminated for treason. In folklore, it was said that the person executed really was the crown prince, with the Qing dynasty executing the last of the direct Ming line. In any case, it shouldn't be claimed without qualification that the Qing executed a crown prince in 1708. I am removing that statement. [Note that in royal usage, a pretender is a person who lost the crown but is still claiming it in pretense. The case here allegedly involves a person pretending to be a pretender -- thus the quotation marks.] Alsosaid1987 (talk) 14:05, 24 March 2019 (UTC)
