MAJOR OBJECTIVES OF MAGALYAN 2[edit]

1. Among the most important task presence of methane on mars which is still yet to be confirmed . 2. New measurements to qualify loss of atmospheric water and carbondioxide 3. Change name of article to MOM II?[edit]

The article is at present titled Mangalyaan 2, and that may have been the name for the mission when first proposed a few years ago, but in the last 18 months it has generally been referred to as "MOM II", not "Mangalyaan 2".[1] @BatteryIncluded: Any comments? If not I will go ahead and move the page to Mars Orbiter Mission II. Mathew5000 (talk) 04:05, 1 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. MOM and MOM 2 are the official names (although they are so generic and bland), plus we should keep the naming consistency. Mangalyaan was moved to MOM, so Mangalyaan 2 should be moved to MOM 2. Cheers, BatteryIncluded (talk) 17:54, 1 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

ISRO is mulling whether to add a rover to what it's provisionally calling "MOM II"; a final decision may hinge on the outcome of India's next moon mission early next year, which will debut an Indian rover. If ISRO opts for a rover as part of MOM II, NASA is keen to offer its Electra radio equipment to facilitate communication between India's rover and mission control, and to improve NASA's communication with its Mars missions, says Michael M. Watkins, director of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. He says NASA would also be open to working on a scientific instrument for MOM II's payload if ISRO were interested.

Rover and Lander unlikely at current weight[edit]

I want to point out the only indication that the mission may include a lander or rover is from 1 unofficial podcast. At the current payload mass of 100kg, it will be almost impossible to include a lander and a rover, these are orders of magnitudes larger based on past mars missions. I will leave this comment for now, if I don't hear any objections I will remove reference to the lander and rover.

As its only 2 years from the launch window, it is unlikely these could be developed from scratch if they aren't already included in the mission definition by now.

@Albertaont: Yeah with 4 years to go, they should've had much more mature definition but if not with rover perhaps a Beagle-2 like lander can be squeezed in? It weighed just ~69 kg gross. Also to remind thatan ISRO official Subbiah Arunan who was associated with MOM categorically said MOM-2 would not be a landing mission, but that was in 2016.  Ohsin  19:17, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Ohsin: Even a Beagle-2 is not likely since there that would still only leave ~30kg for other scientific payloads with the current payload mass of 100kg. Either way, I will leave this up for a month on the talk page, see if there is any other reputable sources to support a lander and rover before I remove reference to it. Podcasts are not reliable source for such an important mission parameter.

Rover possibility[edit]

a new article suggests a possibility of a rover.

I don't know the credibility of the post, so I am not making any edits. Bhanavnamboodiri (talk) 02:52, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It is not an article just a slideshow with claims that are not supported by official information. Rely on official documents when making such additions. ISRO officials tend to make hyped up claims that media picks up without critique and sometimes conflating it with other projects. Somanath has said the lander proposal is just an aspirational concept at this time. Even the 'recent' news about MOM2 payloads is four years old!  Ohsin  03:25, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's now confirmed it will include a rover and a helicopter. Can someone plesse correct it.[edit]

Another case of irresponsible social media hype and crystal ball gazing.  Ohsin  21:56, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
maybe the chiefs at ISRO might give official prez statement on mom2 and 3 very soon? Hopes ! RAZOR-X (talk) 13:20, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
