German-American??

[edit]

Would it be appropriate to change the category to German-American, since he was born in Germany? -Kasreyn 23:54, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I dunno, I think "German-Americans" is usually reserved for people of German descent/culture. Lawrence was just born there on a US military base, which would clearly be US property anyway. It'd be like listing Keanu Reeves as a Lebanese-American because he was born in Lebanon (to American, non-Lebanese parents). JackO'Lantern 04:39, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Correct me if I'm wrong, but a friend of mine was born in Germany, but on the Canadian military base there and to Canadian parents. Isn't that a duel citizenship immediatly? -b 15:15, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Technically, yes, he does hold dual citizenship due to his being born in Frankfurt. Thus, he's a German citizen and an American citizen. So, in this case, it would be appropriate to have the catoegories "German-Americans" and "African-Americans".-Alex,74.133.188.197 08:07, 12 June 2006 (UTC).[reply]
You can't just assume he's a German citizen. Not all countries follow the law of ius soli, under which anyone born on their territory is entitled to citizenship. Furthermore, under the law in some countries, someone in Lawrence's position is entitled to each citizenship but must choose one or the other when he becomes an adult. If he's never lived in Germany as an adult, he may well not be a German citizen, if he ever was. See German nationality law#Birth in Germany. JamesMLane t c 09:33, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He's definitely not a German citizen, and he was likely born on an American military base in Germany. In this case, the proper designation would be German born: Not German-American. German American implies that he's ethnically German. He is not. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SpiritMachine (talkcontribs) 05:35, 10 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"He is also a very successful blackman"

[edit]

Would someone kindly (re-)move this clause and pretty it up? I'm not yet versed on protocol on how to do this, but it's pretty clear to me it doesn't belong at the close of the "Early Life" section, if it belongs in the article at all. I would maintain that calling attention to anyone's race detracts from their talent. Isn't Martin just a "successful entertainer"?

I agree. I removed it. As for protocol, here are two things you ought to know for starters:
  1. Be bold in editing pages. If you accidentally screw something up, someone else will fix it.
  2. Sign a comment on a Talk page by typing four tildes (~~~~) after your comment. It helps everyone keep track of the conversation.

German American

[edit]

martin lawrence spent 7 years in germany so he might have been eligible for a german passport; there are people who are born in britain who despite being born there are not british unless their father is.

The law in Britain is that your parents have to be legally settled for you to be considered a British citizen when you are born (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.7.202.213 (talk)
It would be enough when you are born in Germany and live there just for one day. In Germany everyone can have the german citizienship if you have a past in this country. In Germany live millions of Turks and they all could get the german citizienship, because they are born there or they live there for a long time. Lawrence could het the german citizienship if he want to. But he is just a "German-American" when he get the german citizienship. At this moment he's just American. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.123.49.214 (talk) 17:21, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't Martin from the projects

[edit]

I am from NYC, and many of my friends and relatives in their 40's from Flushing, NY tell me that he grew up in the Bland Projects in Flushing, and that they all lived in the same community. And that his character "Roscoe" from the Martin show was loosely-based on him as a youngster. I was told that the Roscoe-like young Martin was nicknamed "Porker" because of the shape of his nose, that was usually full with mucous. If this is true, why does he rarely claim that he is from NY. 76.118.226.39 01:45, 2 December 2007 (UTC)mke[reply]

What's been going on in his life for the past ten years?

[edit]

Are there really no articles? It's weird that his personal life ends around 2000. 71.112.56.63 (talk) 22:26, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In the film "Martin Lawrence Live: Runteldat", Martin debunked every accusation against him saying, for example, that to carry a weapon in a luggage is a crime only if you are black. And he said that he never used psychotropic. The true is that most accusation was done without any prove or was done by the press. --190.21.151.209 (talk) 01:11, 11 July 2010 (UTC)--190.21.151.209 (talk) 01:11, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Campbell-Martin

[edit]

I followed the ref for "Campbell-Martin agreed to complete the season on the condition that she not appear in any scenes in the last two episodes with Lawrence." and didn't see anything about it. I added citation-needed but didn't remove the ref. dfrankow (talk) 14:29, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I found it with the spurious citation re-inserted in July 2014 and i commented it out. The ref is spurious. There is NO CITATION. 142.254.3.38 (talk) 06:52, 31 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
