The Crispy chicken vs Rendang nonsense

[edit]

I edited the article a month ago to bring it in line with what happened and what is supported by available sources (most particularly, what happened in the episode in question). Somebody came in and reverted the edits without providing comment ... before we get into an edit war lets try and see if there is some understanding of what actually happened and what we can support with references.

  • The contestant was given an exercise to make something with provided ingredients in under 30 minutes, this included the option of some chicken.
  • She opted to make a Rendang, which obviously failed because that takes hours.
  • She was told by the judge she shouldn't have attempted a Rendang and, if she'd picked the chicken, should have gone with something crispy fried as that is all their was time to do.
  • The internet went mad because people started posting misleading statements about this together with selectively edited clips
  • Subsequent comments were made by notable people who had not seen the episode, and so were being a bit foolish.

Complicated a little because I suspect the judge in question decided the controversy was better for his exposure than correcting anyone and stumped in with questioning whether rendang is indonesian or malaysian.

I'll put the article back in line with the facts soon unless someone comes up with better interpretations or references. Ideally what needs is a copy or transcript of the episode, but the British Channels are notoriously protective of content, and I no longer have my recording. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.217.22.199 (talk) 19:35, 7 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Seems the nonsense is still going on. If someone would like to explain how a rendang can be made from fresh chicken in thirty minutes or less, do go ahead and do so, otherwise this is just uninformed idiots who never saw the program spouting off. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.217.22.199 (talk) 21:33, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Accuracy

[edit]

Having just watched the past two weeks worth of Celebrity Masterchef, I think "There are three contestants per episode with a total of 24 celebrities taking part" is definitely inaccurate when it comes to the semi-final and final. The semifinal saw four celebrities competing - Liz McClarnon, Andi Peters, Mark Moraghan, and Louis Emerick - and then the first three went through to the final where Liz eventually won. Both the semifinal and final were shown in 3 episodes - two hour-long episodes on wednesday and thursday nights, and then one half hour on the friday night.

However, I'm hesitant to go in and edit the article because I don't know (a) whether the format has been different this year to previous years and (b) whether the article is correct when referring to the parts of the series prior to the semifinals. Anybody know? Ubermammal (talk) 21:11, 26 July 2008 (UTC) I saw another instance of inaccuracy: where this show states it is for "ten- to twelve-year-olds" the original MasterChef article lists this verion as being for cooks as old as sixteen years old. --Marceki111 (talk) 19:04, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

John Torode/Michel Roux Jr

[edit]

The introduction states Michel Roux has replaced John Torode, but further down it states he has replacement him for the current "The Professionals" incarnation of the series. Can any confirm whether John Torode has been permanently replaced?Chrishopkins53 (talk) 16:25, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Michel Roux Jnr is a judge in place of John Torode in "Masterchef: The Professionals" because the prize, apart from the prestige, is the opportunity for the winner to work at Roux's La Gavrorche restaurant and learn from him. Quote from The Press Association "After winning the title Michel Roux Jnr offered him (2008 winner Derek Johnstone)a position working at his restaurant Le Gavroche in London, and he starts the new job in October." There is absolutley no evidence to suggest Roux has replaced Torode permanently - a Times Online interview from September 13th 2008 describes Torode as "The Masterchef Presenter" and makes no reference at all to him having left the show. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Billduvel (talkcontribs) 23:54, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

John Torode was indeed replaced for The Professionals by Michel Roux Jr and Monica Galetti until this year, however MCR himself has been announced to have left, with no announcement yet of a replacement. Star-one (talk) 22:56, 16 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Grid for Celebrity Masterchef?

[edit]

I see someone has added a grid for this year's series of Celebrity Masterchef (Number 4) with the status of the celebrities and their placements. I was just wondering if this was necessary as there has not been ones done for previous series of CM, and they are just lists of participants saying "The winner beat all these celebrities."

In my opinion, this sort of unbalances the page. I would suggest making a completely new page for CM4 as they do for other reality shows such as I'm A Celebrity and Strictly Come Dancing, thus restoring the balance. Just a suggestion.70.31.224.213 (talk) 15:56, 3 July 2009 (UTC)samusek2[reply]

Spelling

[edit]

The opening credits (of the latest BBC series at least) spell it MasterChef. The BBC website is inconsistent, but often uses the capital-C spelling too. 143.252.80.100 (talk) 15:36, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

MasterchefMasterChef — Incorrect name format. The programme's title contains an uppercase C. Relisted for further input. Jafeluv (talk) 13:28, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fact check: 'criticism for perceived "dumbing down" and the overt bias'

[edit]

The article currently says the programme has received 'criticism for perceived "dumbing down" and the overt bias' of the two presenters. I don't know what bias is being referred to (and I watch the programme) so I'd certainly say the word "overt" is misplaced, possibly a weasel-word. But can we have some references to back this up, if it is true that the programme has received such criticism? It's the first I've heard of it. If this alleged criticism isn't referenced then it should certainly be removed. --mcld (talk) 09:46, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Junior Masterchef winner

[edit]

Someone changed the 1999 junior masterchef winner. I reverted this since Dominique Fraser is corroborated by other websites e.g. [1] but I don't have a good source. Good source would be appreciated. --mcld (talk) 15:19, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

And the winner is...

[edit]

"Game show"?

[edit]

Is this really a "game show" as the article describes? I wouldn't call it such. What do others think? 86.181.170.34 (talk) 02:01, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

List of recipes

[edit]

There doesn't seem to be articles for each episode or even lists of dishes anywhere - or am I missing something? 109.155.14.27 (talk) 18:48, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'd definitely support a list of dishes (a list of full recipes would be a big ask for sure!), maybe linking to wikifood?Star-one (talk) 22:51, 16 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Time for a fundamental overhall?

[edit]

Reading through this article it's clear it's time for a fundamental rewrite to update it to reflect the current reality of the programme. Star-one (talk) 22:56, 16 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, also too many of the different shows got merged into one, and as a result, individual show has insufficient informational content. If you want to know who the finalists are apart from the winners in any year you are out of luck. Compare to say MasterChef Australia or The Great British Bake Off where you can find pages for individual series with detailed descriptions, this page is very poor. hiatus

[edit]

The hiatus did happen but i cant find a source that would fully confirm it. The IMDb page shows that no episodes happened during 1998 so it did definitively happen. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0278218/ Jerry Steinfield (talk) 03:52, 18 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Numbers are inconsistent?

[edit]

I’m noticing that the way the numbers are written in this article are inconsistent. For example, in the Heats section, fifteen is written in numerals once and then written in letters elsewhere. I know that it’s typical to spell out single digit numbers, and I was wondering if the double digit numbers should also be spelled out as well for consistency’s sake. --Porpentine121 (talk) 18:19, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
