MMA Record[edit]

I'm noticing quite a bit of undos and redos in the MMA Record. Is there a reason why we are fighting over including the record in this table? It does seem to be part of the example at WP:MMA plus it must've taken some poor soul a bit of work. I vote to keep the record unless the example MMA record changes at WP:MMA Hutcher (talk) 06:22, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Second and it did take me a while to put it in. Took a fair few attempts because of the slightly difficult nature of the record box. There's no need for removal as it helps people to see what a fighters record is after a certain fight. I vote we keep. Paralympiakos (talk) 13:43, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, while there is an example record box on the main MMA WikiProject page, over the last couple of years there has been off and on discussions about what should be in the record box. Looking at the archives of the talk pages, it appears there was concern about the record column when this format was initially proposed. If anyone is interested in links to all of the record box discussions see this discussion on my talk page. --TreyGeek (talk) 15:01, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure if it's useful or not. It's almost irrelevant. I just want these articles to be clean so we need to follow some sort of rational and it might as well come from the WP:MMA. Edit wars about this are clearly not cool. Hutcher (talk) 02:56, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Changed “retired” to “former professional”[edit]

Although he is retired, the correct wording is “former professional” as this is consistent with other entries on fighters, for example if you look up Evander Holyfields Wikipedia entry, although he is retired it will say he is a former professional, same with many other Wikipedia entries on fighters, I feel this wording is more consistent and reads better [[User:|CoyPandora]] (talk) 15:11, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

CoyPandora "Former" is usually refer to a employment position the subject held - like former XXX Welterweight Champion or XXX Prime Minister while "retired - finished with no expectation of future engagement of the field. Cassiopeia talk 21:55, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see your point, but I’d still prefer if you went with “former professional” as that is consistent with other Wikipedia entries on fighters, like Evander Holyfield as I mentioned before CoyPandora (talk) 09:43, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
CoyPandora We have used the word "former" as well as "retired" for MMA figher (btw Holyfield is a boxer and not a mma fighter). So if a fighter retired, we put "retired" on the lead section, and if a fighter no longer a champion for the division, then we put "former UFC/XXX YYYweight divison". If a fighter finished the contract with XXX promotion or released by XXX promotion and moved no to fight for ZZZ promotion, then we put he competed in XXX promotion in YYYweight division. That is usually the norm. Cassiopeia talk 10:09, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
