Opposition to Same-Sex Marriage

[edit]

Deleted comment saying that Dr. Offord's comments on same-sex marriage were 'homphobic' - this is a judegement call, not an objective fact. People can form their own views when they have read the letter (reference link now included). Xanatos 2097 (talk) 11:34, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Removing 'Dr' from the article

[edit]

The article began with the title 'Dr' - as he recently (during this parliamentary session) was awarded a doctorate. Yes, technically he can be called a Dr, but this in not generally done in the wikipedia article of a politician with a PhD - I have never seen this and I have read countless articles on past and present politicians, British and overseas. Even the lion's of other notable people - almost everyone not involved in academia or perhaps as a technical expert in their chosen field - do not use the title. Considering the subject is in a sensitive position (i.e. serving politician), I think it's most appropriate to not break convention that is followed by other politicians, and therefore remove Dr from the opening line and still leave in all the information regarding his academic achievements. ****also this info is unreferenced**** Please discuss any opinions and concerns before considering reverting.Rayman60 (talk) 16:29, 26 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I also note that the official parliament.uk pages for these politicians follow the same pattern - and therefore a skeptical person would assume that the changes have been instigated by a non-neutral party and in the interest of maintaining integrity to the article's content, I believe this further supports the argument that Dr stays offRayman60 (talk) 16:38, 26 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
