[edit]

There are five Matthew Towgoods in six generations. According to [1] which is not RS but is credible, we have:

  1. Matthew Towgood I 1620-1670, father of
  2. Matthew Towgood II 1646-1726, father of
  3. Michaijah Towgood 1700-1759, father of
  4. Matthew Towgood III 1727-1791, father of
  5. Matthew Towgood IV 1761-1 January 1831 (query this by newspaper reports), 10 children by first marriage, 14 by second, father of
  6. Matthew Towgood V 1787-1867.

The assumption is that Matthew Towgood junior as mentioned in the Fourdrinier business is Matthew Towgood V, who took forward the paper business. I think he is "Matthew Towgood of Dartford". Charles Matthews (talk) 07:24, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

A Rugby School list gives him age 13 in 1795.[2] This doesn't quite fit with the source suggesting he was born 1780. Charles Matthews (talk) 09:18, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
