Requested move[edit]

As noted by Born2cycle in a discussion on Matt Williams (American football), there is not a great deal to distinguish this Matthew Williams as the primary target of Wikipedia searchers for Matthew Williams. One could argue that the Welsh Matthew Williams (footballer) was equally or more prominent in his field, but the large number of individuals with this name by itself would suggest that the default be the disambiguation page, and not any specific individual. Because being a right handed pitcher in the major American baseball leagues is not a distinguishing feature for people with this name, I used his middle initial instead. This move would allow the disambiguation page to become the default for searches on "Matthew Williams". --Bejnar (talk) 09:29, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think that sounds reasonable. (Note: this is a minor league player). Station1 (talk) 09:54, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Alternate support move to Matthew Williams (baseball). There is no indication that his middle initial is commonly used to distinguish him. There are three Matt Williamses who played baseball and have articles, but this player seems to actually go by Matthew. A hat note should be good enough to distinguish him from the rest. —Wknight94 (talk) 18:41, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The trouble with that is while the articles on the other three baseball players are under "Matt Williams", they are also referred to as "Matthew Williams". Disambiguation needs to disambiguate. Put them all together. --Bejnar (talk) 21:43, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Several other proposals of a similar nature are ongoing. --Una Smith (talk) 00:28, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
