Poland possible[edit]

"seligible to represent the Poland national team" (2021): https://www.sport.pl/pilka/7,65037,27602233,kibic-sam-wreczylby-mu-paszport-dylemat-polski-ws-matty-ego.html#s=BoxOpImg3 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:16b8:ada3:8d00:f057:ef4:c491:db33 (talkcontribs)

Is the passport a requirement[edit]

The text currently says "He received his Polish passport in October 2021, qualifying him to play for the Poland national team.".

But does FIFA require you to have a passport to represent a country? Isn't having the nationality enough? For example, if a player was born in Poland and lived there and was a Polish national, would he have to obtain a passport to play for Poland at home (or away but in the Schengen Area)? I doubt it. I suggest correcting the text to say that he acquired Polish nationality, which is what qualified him to play for Poland. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Timtranslates (talkcontribs) 09:01, 22 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The nationality is required, but FIFA only checks the passport (at least in the case of an association change, I have no information for players born and raised in the country they represent).
