A factual point to ponder: this article used to claim that "he was a younger son of the third Lord Revelstoke". A google search shows some sources that agree (though they may have been based on this mistaken WP article). At any rate, based on the birthdates, "third" must be wrong; it seems much more likely that he was the son of the first Lord Revelstoke (and other sources found by the same google search confirm this). For now I'm hedging the question by changing it to "younger son of Lord Revelstoke". I'm also curious what the difference in the titles "Lord" and "Baron" might be. (I've linked to the "Baron Revelstoke" article, as it's clearly talking about the same family.) Steve Summit 17:49, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

According to the Complete Peerage, Maurice is son of Edward Charles Baring (1828-1897), who was the first Baron Revelstoke of Membland. The Barony was created on 30 June 1885. "Lord" and "Baron" are essentially interchangable here, though in other instances there are Lords who are not Barons, and "Lord" is the likelier to be used in direct address. The Baring family has had at least seven peerage titles, so perhaps someone just got confused; I'll change the article to the accurate version. Cecil Baring (1864-1934) was the third Baron Revelstoke of Membland, and he had no sons named Maurice. - Nunh-huh 01:52, 14 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Maurice Baring was the fourth son of the first Lord Revelstoke (the oldest, Arthur died when two months old, the youngest, Rupert, shortly after he was born). His older brothers John, Everard and Cecil all became Lord Revelstoke. He had one younger brother named Hugo. He also had three sisters Margaret, Elizabeth and Susan. Margaret married Lord Spencer and is thus the (great?)-grandmother of Lady Diana Spencer, who married Prince Charles. Thus the siblings of the Baring family are kin to the royal family. Elizabeth married the 5ht Earl of Kenmare, Susan married James Reid, who was in attendance to queen Victoria.
