There are several sources that mention Walter and Harry in connection with them being the sons of May Irwin. Most importantly sources during her lifetime. Im personally sourcing Daniel Blum's Great Stars of the American Stage c. 1952 when May hadn't been dead too long and possibly Harry and Walter would've been still alive. Blum's book has a section on May amongst other great men and women of the theater. Blum's articles on each of the stars contains very personal family photos of the different stars not seen in other publications or theater paraphernalia. Blum's text is also very personal as he for instance knows the names of Blanche Bates two children, George and Frances etc(who were also born late in Bates life after she was 40). But Walter and Harry WERE(Im taking a very educated guess) May's biological sons, and she just had them late in life. Not unusual in the Edwardian Era. In all the literature turning up on May, like obits, mention is made of her sons, not her ADOPTED sons. Perhaps there are descendents of Walter and Harry today who could put the matter straight.
