Track listing[edit]

Right now the article says she "confirmed" the track listing on twitpic, but looking at her twitpic post, I notice she uses the phrase "OPEN TO SUGGESTION [sic]," which would seem to imply that it is only a tentative track listing. 70.152.70.38 (talk) 15:32, 22 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hirschberg[edit]

"On 30 May 2010, M.I.A. posted a streaming interview with herself and journalist Lynn Hirschberg, debunking fabrications, misquotes and recontextualisations that Hirschberg made in a piece she wrote for the New York Times" - does this really belong in the section on the promotion of the album? Good question. I think it explains the song "I'm a Singer" that was released, which could come under "promotion," or more generally "Release." There are other reasons why it could fit perhaps in the broader article but we'll see. [1] Lifebonzza (talk) 22:27, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The track Illy Girl uses a sample from a baile funk hit in Brazil called Feira de Acarí, from MC Batata, 1990. The song is here on youtube, for example, and is referenced in two articles on wikipedia-pt (that acknowledge, but don't validate the information), one about funk carioca (or baile funk) and another about a soap opera that featured the song. Brazilian funk is very poorly documented, but a vinyl of the soap opera's ST would verify my information (on sale here, for example, and cited here). Unfortunately we'd need a reliable source specifically stating that that track is sampled, especially given that it is not listed on the album. Comments: The only thing that I think is a little wonky about this article is the track listing format/box. Why not use a template like the ones in My World (EP) or Straight Outta Compton, and then separately list the credits?

Misson Impossible Area?[edit]

"Meds and Feds" and it's sample[edit]

Is there a genuine reason as to why this information keeps getting removed? It's strange considering a note regarding "It Takes a Muscle" being a cover is left up. "Meds and Feds" contains an interpolation of Sleigh Bells' "Treats". Cazxiro (talk) 08:00, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Actually it doesn't. Derek E. Miller has stated in interviews that he played on this album before the Sleigh Bells album was recorded. Therefore the riff originally created for this album was re-used on that one, not the other way round -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 10:27, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

/\/\/\Y/\[edit]

I really think when the name is mentioned, it should be written like /\/\/\Y/\ since that's the way she intended it to be. But then again, a lot of the other articles that are about stylized album/artist names say i.e.: Maya (stylized as Maya). so I don't know. This is an interesting point. I don't think the article would suffer if it was titled /\/\ /\ Y /\, the way the album is titled/intended on the cover. I'll leave it for further discussion for now....Lifebonzza (talk) 13:00, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is "/\/\/\Y/\" (or any other heavy stylization) looks very different depending on what fonts the user has installed. Also, MOS:TMSTYLE prohibits "attempts to emulate font choices". Kaldari (talk) 13:20, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Genre sources/thoughts?[edit]

The only sourced genre at the moment is industrial, if you can somehow interpret "industrial-influenced" as "industrial". I found a source detailing the album as avant-pop with significant "industrial rock" influence and "electro-clash, hip-hop, Bollywood, dub and dance music" influence (from NY Daily News). The writer of this article has also written for The Guardian among other websites. Thoughts? --Aleccat 23:23, 21 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a bit worried about the flow now, with The Fader bit being after it.
