Should move to just "Mayadin" as the most common name

[edit]

This article should be moved to just "Mayadin" as the most common name in English language usage. Google counts for English language results (you have to use 'advanced' search) in books are "al-Mayadin" syria 161, "Mayadin" -"al-Mayadin" Syria 239; news results "al-Mayadin" syria 103, "Mayadin" -"al-Mayadin" Syria 125. Note that these aren't estimated result counts - they are the actual number of results returned when you get to the last page of hits.

The article was created as "Mayadin" but moved without discussion last year to "al-Mayadin". Batternut (talk) 12:38, 21 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Al-Mayadeen

[edit]

All the Western outlets are sulking because they desperately wanted President Al Assad overthrown (after the tremendous success of overthrowing Gaddafi in Libya) so they don't report any news from the war in Syria anymore, but in the reporting of its liberation this weekend the name of the town has been Anglicised as Al-Mayadeen by the only significant media - https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/intense-footage-syrian-army-crushes-isis-al-mayadeen-battle/ https://www.rt.com/news/406714-mayadeen-isis-weapons-stockpiles/

Fwiw TASS reported it first TASS: World - Syrian military take control of Mayadin, preferring 'Mayadin' variant. Batternut (talk) 23:07, 15 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
