term lengths[edit]

Currently, KCMO mayors have four year terms that start in the spring of the year before the usual national 4-year elections (so 1999 instead of 2000, etc). The City's website is currently wrong about when Kay Barnes started. -- nae'blis 22:20, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Party affiliation[edit]

The article says, "Technically, according to the City Charter, city elections are non-partisan, meaning that the mayor and city council run without nominal political affiliation." However, all mayors except the last two, Mark Funkhouser (2007–2011) and Sly James (2001–present) are listed with a political party; the last two are both Democrats. This is confusing. (A) If the charter changed around 2007 from partisan to non-partisan elections, the chart should indicate this change. (B) if the charter didn't change around 2007, then we have the odd situation of politicians listed with political parties to which they belong, but who were elected in a non-partisan manner, and this should be clarified, plus the two "Independent" mayors should be treated the same as the others, i.e. listed as Democrats. —Anomalocaris (talk) 18:34, 12 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
