Theme song

[edit]

Where does it say that Kurotsuchi's theme is Kenichi Ito's 9 Underground?

- I'd like an answer to the same question; I'm a huge fan of both BLEACH and of Kenichi Ito's work, but I've never seen anything at all about 9アンダーグラウンド being Mayuri's 'theme music', especially considering what a generally unknown "independent" artist Kenichi Ito is. I think it's a fan-assigned theme song, in which case it doesn't belong in the article. If someone will provide me with a link or visual proof that it is indeed officially assigned by Kubo Tite to the character of Mayuri Kurotsuchi, then I will gladly put the information back in. REMROMchild 20:18, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I also suspect that it's unofficial. A google search with the song title and Mayuri's name only brings up this page, another page with wiki information, and some old livejournal post. I think the only characters that have official songs (before the character CDs were released, anyway) were the characters introduced in the very beginning. Mayuri was not among them and there's also no mention of a theme song in the Character Data Book. Best to leave it out. Cannibalist 20:27, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Weight

[edit]

Is Mayuri's weight really supposed to be 119 lbs? That seems pretty skinny for a guy who is 5'8in. According to Nemu's page, she's only five pounds lighter than him yet she's 5'5in. I guess it's not a big deal...just wondering.

It is correct. I imagine his modifications screw with his weight. ~SnapperTo 03:57, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You'd think they would make him heavier if anything, not lighter... Then again, he's a ghost. That he has any weight at all is the surprising thing. --tjstrf talk 04:09, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

antivilian?

[edit]

is he really an antivilian? because he's a death god. i think an antihero is close enough Arttic00 01:28, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's not him being a shinigami that makes him an anti-villain, it's him being a mad scientist who beats his daughter and vivisects people... but still not really quite a bad guy. --tjstrf talk 01:31, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

oh! thanks for letting me know. Arttic00 01:34, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New look

[edit]

Mayuri looks different in Chapter 298; [1] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.123.141.158 (talk) 20:23, 2 November 2007 (UTC) Yeah I believe that he did his face paint and molded his hair different from when he was introduced and in flash backs and different shape cap this time but yeah new look he looks more goat look to him--67.180.225.161 02:23, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

someone put up a picture of him in the character outline. Personely i think its looks better in the synopsis area because its a picture of him late in the serie--Tosta mista 17:30, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Old Look

[edit]

I'm sure this is old news, but Mayuri's arms used to be a brown color in the early episodes (Episode 29, for example). This was edited for the English dub. Just thought somebody could edit that in somewhere, with explanation behind it (because I would honestly like to find out), since it's not even mentioned in this article, or anywhere I've went to that has information regarding Mayuri. One last thing: Mayuri FTW!--SyL64 19:00, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Because there is no explanation and it's a trivial mistake by the anime, nothing more. If anything, they corrected the mistake by changing to the proper color. — Someguy0830 (T | C) 20:10, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

maybe he dosen't paint his arms remember his real skin tones not white and black and purple —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.180.225.161 (talk) 00:13, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If there's no explanation how can you be so sure?--SyL64 19:35, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Because the anime is derivitive, the manga is the source. He doesn't change in the manga. — Someguy0830 (T | C) 22:06, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

First encounter

[edit]

Is there any evidence that the Arrancar Mayuri runs into is Szayel Aporro Granz? The chapter seems to be intentionally vague as to who he is talking to. He also clearly responds to a question, but we don't see who asked it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.73.199.211 (talk) 22:59, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Two reasons:
  1. Byakuya and Unohana are accounted for. Process of elimination states that Szayel must be the remainder.
  2. The terrain below him is the same. The terrain is not damaged as such anywhere else, but there.
That's how. — Someguy0830 (T | C) 23:19, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It might be where Sado is because remember that giant wall was destortied and we know the rubble wasn't reduced to nothing and/or spirit particles so it could be either Szayel or the Assassination squad because he dose say Arrancar more then once —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.180.225.161 (talk) 00:11, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Where Sado was wasn't damaged, and he is with Unohana, so no. — Someguy0830 (T | C) 00:24, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No actual proof of that Someguy because you got to remember he knocked that guy through the wall and you got to remember it's been months since we've seen the 12th in action he could have grown his hair out in a ponytail like Unohana's but let's just wait until the next week before but I think it could be either or —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.180.225.161 (talk) 02:12, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, it could not. The ground is not damaged under or around Chad, and it is under Mayuri. Making excuses doesn't change that. The ground is clean when the Exquias arrive, so they are not in the same place. Finally, Mayuri is answering Syazel's question, while Unohana is never asked anything. — Someguy0830 (T | C) 22:46, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
To illustrate the process of elimination: first, the person Szayel is talking to when he asks the question has a captain's haori on. Next, on the two-page illustration with Mayuri, Unohana, and Byakuya, Mayuri's background is the sky, which means that he's either facing Szayel or the Exequias leader. However, the Exequias leader exclaims "Captain!", but only Unohana said that she was a captain, and this is on the same page right after Unohana talked. To end this silly discussion, Mayuri addresses Szayel's question and the ground around him is broken. Sephiroth BCR (Converse) 01:33, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]

This is directly specifically at The Rogue Penguin, since s/he has just undone what references I began to enter into the article. Penguin, I realize that some of the things I put references for might be "obvious" to someone who watches Bleach regularly and knows the character Mayuri, but if you'll just look up a bit, there's a little notice at the top of the page which requests references to be put into the article. In my view, references exist for curious readers to use, so that they can go back to the anime/manga and watch/read about the things the article cites. To that end, it helps to say in which episode Mayuri uses his grappling arm, in which chapter he first comes out of a wall, etc. However, references also serve another, more administrative purpose - they act as "evidence" for what the article says. Even if what the article says seems "obvious" to a Bleach fan, it won't be obvious at all for a Wikipedian coming along simply to see that "the article is properly sourced." The obvious needs to be sourced in order to demonstrate the fact that it hasn't been pulled from thin air. This page wouldn't currently have a notice asking for references if the community didn't think it needed them. Right now, I'm not going to try to thread the references back in, since it takes time, and I don't want you to just reverse them again without having read this first. I hope you understand where I'm coming from, and if you don't, I'd like to know how you want to deal with the notice - which is undeniably present - and which matter-of-factly does ask for citations.CowofYes (talk) 00:43, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You generally only reference that which people are liketo question. Referencing everything is a quite unnecessary practice. Also, the tag is for outside, i.e. third party, references. — Trust not the Penguin (T | C) 01:01, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
People are likely to question, challenge, and remove quite a lot of this article since it's been nominated for a merger. And since third-party sources really have no place in this article, I can't see what other references people would want to put in it except those that lead back to Bleach itself. Regardless of that, I think many things do need references - Mayuri's ears, for example, are only revealed as permanently gone in the manga; the episode that he withholds Bount data needs sourcing, to prove that he did so in order TO catch a Bount; the number of Quincies he experimented on should be noted and then sourced; etc. I mean, it's not science, but I would like to reference the article enough to make the notice at the top of the page relatively superfluous. Do you have any suggestions? Otherwise, the notice will stay there forever.
And actually, now that I think about it, one of the three references we do have in the article is really obvious. There's a reference proving that Mayuri has blue hair when a picture of him with blue hair is right there next to the statement.CowofYes (talk) 01:11, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Merging is different than questioning. They're two entirely different concepts. The notice will just change if we shove the page full of references to one about primary sources. The first anime reference, I will agree, is needless in light of the image. — Trust not the Penguin (T | C) 01:22, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Let me put it this way: why is the notice there if the article doesn't need references? CowofYes (talk) 01:27, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Click on the links in the notice. Primary sources aren't enough. — Trust not the Penguin (T | C) 02:04, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That doesn't really answer my question, though. I'm sure this stands for many articles on fictitious subjects/topics, but the primary sources really are where all of the information is derived from. I don't think that means that they shouldn't be cited as proof of specific things. Otherwise, why do we have any references at all? It's more than evident that Mayuri is a prisoner in the flashback if you've read the manga, so that doesn't, according to your logic, need to be sourced. Neither does the fact that he's ambidextrous, since that, too, is self-evident after watching the episodes. Don't we reference these things to point to where, in the anime/manga, the info came from? Otherwise, this article will never have references - ever - and the notice really will stay up forever. That just doesn't make sense to me. Unless we used the data books or things. I could cite some books on Jizo, in relation to Mayuri's sword (the Jizo article itself has poor references). But, really, how are we to provide references for this article if you don't want to use the primary sources?CowofYes (talk) 03:10, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You can use them for some things, it's just not necessary for every little thing. Most of Mayuri's page is general stuff. I don't really feel like arguing the point though, so ref what you feel needs it. Use manga refs, though. They're generally preferred since pages can be cited. — Trust not the Penguin (T | C) 03:28, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, okay, I'm looking at the "Good" Rukia article right now, and sort of see how third-party references are being used there. But since there is a lot of plain old Bleach citation, I'll go ahead and include some now that I've got your consensus. I'll try not to go overboard, though - still check me if I do. And I'll probably work on this article over the next few weeks. CowofYes (talk) 03:54, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Body Modifications

[edit]

What do you guys think about moving the info about Mayuri's body modifications out of his Character Outline and into the Abilities and Research section? They get some brief mention there already, and I think they might fit better in that section than in the current one. It would be an easy thing to just pull the paragraphs down to that section and integrate them, but I wanted to ask before doing it myself. CowofYes (talk) 03:26, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Go ahead. Your edits thus far have been pretty good. — Trust not the Penguin (T | C) 03:28, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Penguin, do you want the liquid blob in the Inventions/Research section, or down where the bankai is? Right now the same information is in two places, and when I tried to delete if out of the bottom section, you restored it? Oh yeah and I didn't mean to take out the bacteria from the inventions! That was a mistake. Sorry! CowofYes (talk) 04:47, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I just kept it down with the bankai and deleted the repetitive stuff that was up in Abilities. CowofYes (talk) 05:06, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All those pictures?

[edit]

This bothers me in a lot of articles, not just this one, but do we really need all those pictures to illustrate Mayuri? I mean, I am totally not arguing that his appearence is varied drastically in different scenes, but do we really need all those? I mean, the Rukia article only has two or three, right? IceUnshattered (talk) 22:31, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rukia doesn't have four different appearances. StardustDragon 14:56, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Mayuri looks too weird to be aptly described via text, so the images are rather necessary. Not our fault Kubo's redesigned him every arc. --erachima talk 02:13, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is one of the primary reasons why I don't think we should merge his article at the time. Suigetsu 00:50, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merge Proposal?

[edit]

The "Discuss" link in the merge template does not link to any discussion I can find. Sadly, I'm not sure what I should do, so I'm just going to post it here. --Skunkboy74 (talk) 02:13, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Personally, I like the Mayuri article. I'm sure reception info does and/or will exist (we're getting close to episodes in the English anime where he fights, and IGN will no doubt talk about him in their reviews for them), and there's a lot of stuff in this article to be merged, and the pictures are sorta important too. 70.138.167.143 (talk) 01:16, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
