Requested edit on 14 May 2020[edit]

Information to be added or removed: Add citation(s) in support of current text in 'Early Life' and 'Career' sections.

Explanation of issue: The current 'Early Life' and 'Career' section have several statement which need citations. Here I provide several possible references in support of the current text and request other editors to review the material and make changes as appropriate. I've numbered the requested edits.

1) The section begins: Johnston-Hollitt was born in Darwin shortly before Cyclone Tracy destroyed the city.... During her early life she lived in various parts of Queensland before her family returned to Darwin in 1979. No reference is currently given in support of this text. Suggest addition of [1] to support this statement. In this podcast the subject discusses and confirms she was born in Darwin and then moved to 'North Queensland' (specifically Townsville) before returning to Darwin at age 4 and then lived in Darwin until age 11. See timestamp 3:40 - 4:36 min.

2) Later in the same section the text says: In 1986 her family moved to Adelaide and she completed High School. Suggest addition of [2] to support this statement. In the same podcast as above the subject discusses moving to Adelaide at age 11 and that this is where she completed high school. Subject was born in September 1974 so would have been 11 at the start of 1986 until September so this appears consistent (though technically she was also 11 for 3 months at the end of 1985). See timestamp 5:10 - 5:30 min.

3) At the end of the section the following sentence is without a citation: She also completed a BSc (Hons) in Astrophysics under the supervision of Roger Clay, and a doctorate in radio astronomy jointly with the University of Adelaide and the CSIRO Australia Telescope National Facility under the supervision of Ron Ekers and Richard Hunstead. Again suggest addition of [3] to support this statement. In the same podcast as above the subject discusses and confirms she was a joint student of the CSIRO Australia Telescope National Facility and the University of Adelaide (see timestamp 7:07 - 7:45 min) and that her supervisors were Ekers and Hunstead (see timestamp 9:40 - 11:50 min). Additional proof that her supervisors were Ekers and Hunstead appears in the acknowledgements of her PhD thesis [4] (see page iii). The thesis 'Statement of Originality' also provides evidence of being a joint student of the University of Adelaide and the CSIRO Australia Telescope National Facility (see first sentence, page i). Finally, suggest the addition of the following in support of being a joint with the CSIRO [5] which lists Johnston-Hollitt under former doctoral students for 2003. Note that the Australia Telescope National Facility is now a part of the CSIRO Astronomy & Space Science.

4) In the section 'Career' the following sentence is listed as needing a citation: In January 2009 she moved to Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand to establish and lead a new radio astronomy group. Suggest addition of [6] and/or [7] to support this statement. The first reference dates to 1 April 2009 and already lists Johnston-Hollitt as being at Victoria University of Wellington and having a research group. The second reference was first published on 1 April 2009 (updated on 19 July 2018) and explicitly states Johnston-Hollitt came to New Zealand, joining Victoria University of Wellington in January 2009, where she started recruiting students to work with her using the world’s major radio telescopes.

5) Later in the 'Career' section the following sentence is missing a citation: She joined the MWA Board in 2012, became Vice-Chair in 2013, and held the position of Chair from January 2014 to January 2018. Suggest addition of [8] to support this statement. In this second recent podcast the subject states she was Chair of the MWA Board for 4 years before becoming MWA Director 2 years ago which is consistent with the date range given. Additionally this piece [9] dated to 14 December 2017 also acknowledges she spent 6 years on the MWA Board, the last 4 as Chair. Subject's LinkedIn page also gives all of these dates explicitly [10] if that is applicable? References supporting change: Automatically generated below. I hope that's ok? I didn't want to repeat them, though note the first 3 are the same podcast, the information is just in different timestamps and I couldn't find the code to denote that. @EuryaleGorgon:I allow you to change the information yourself. Trains2050 (talk) 16:43, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@EuryaleGorgon:, what is the nature of your conflict that you cannot do the edits yourself? These appear top be well-reasoned edits, but if you do have a conflict you probably should not be doing them.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 20:47, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Trains2050: thank you for peer reviewing the suggested edits above and confirming they are acceptable. @ThatMontrealIP: In this case, I am an unpaid "connected contributor" as defined by Wikipedia's Conflict of Interest page, and wish to remain anonymous. I'm happy to make the edits above which have been reviewed and verified by an independent editor, but would be equally happy for someone else to do it. If you, for example, were willing I would appreciate that greatly. EuryaleGorgon (talk) 19:02, 10 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to switch this back to "not answered" and let someone else review it. Trains2050 is a very new editor who should not be reviewing edit requests.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 19:09, 10 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Acknowledged: Give editors some time to get these edits in, given their length & complexity. Thank you for your patience. Donna Spencertalk-to-me 20:11, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
check Partially implemented: Overall these suggested contributions improved the article; however, Wikipedia should not be confused with a personal profile for the subject. It is meant to stand in as an encyclopedic article. So sources like LinkedIn are not considered reliable sources and personal blogs published by the subject are not preferred and are seldom, if ever, used. Having sections like "public speaking" or "Awards and recognition" such as they are don't do much to help readers understand the subject. I've gone ahead and removed them. I'll tidy up the article a bit more to comply with Wikipedia standards and encourage you to keep using this talk as a way to improve this article.
