change name to raf

even though baader meinhof gang was a common name in germany, still the official name that group gave itself is raf. it is also the name of the wikipedia entry. can we change this to Red Army Faction Members or Members of the ...?trueblood 18:26, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Ulrike Meinhof's death

Re: Ulrike Meinhof's death by hanging. It was my understanding that this is a disputed suicide; and disputed most strongly by members of the RAF itself. The Wikipedia page for Ulrike Meinhof itself states:

"The German government claimed she had hanged herself, a claim that was supported by a governmental inquiry panel. Many people, including members of the Red Army Faction have always held that she was killed by representatives of the German authorities".

Is it not too black & white to simply state "She committed suicide in her prison cell by hanging"?

Petra Schelm Shooting

Sorry to be so grisly, but . . . Petra Schelm is mentioned on this page, and has no article solely dedicated to her. According to this entry Jillian Becker claims that Schelm was killed by multiple gunshot wounds from machine gun fire, whilst at least one person is cited as contending that Schelm was killed by a single shot to the head. Regardless of Becker's research credibility, photographs taken immediately after schelm's death at the scene (probably by police) clearly show a single head wound directly through the eye. It's always possible that there were other wounds, but the sheer accuracy of the single shot through the eye seems to me to suggest something other than machine gun fire, and would suggest that this was the cause of death. On this basis I have added mention of the photo (I have a reproduction in an early 70's pamphlet) to the article.LSmok3 22:58, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

I have to say I agree somewhat with the above comment referring to the repeated use of the title 'Baader-Meinhof Gang'. The group's own chosen moniker was indeed 'Red Army Faction'. I may be wrong in this, but I was under the impression that the former was essentially an invention of the German media of the time, and therefore might be taken to reflect a certain 'bias' (if my assumption is correct, that bias being entirely evident in the relationship that the group had with the media), and, again, as far as I know, couldn't be said to reflect the group's own self-definition. Again, 'Baader-Meinhof Gang' carries certain implicit connoitations. The use of the name RAF in substitution might reflect less bias. Just my opinion, but I will probably see to this since I plan on doing a rewrite for grammar and style anyway. LSmok3 23:46, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
