"The MetroLyrics policy that allows some use of copyrighted material without compensation does not meet Wikipedia rules for avoiding copyright infringement. Excepting pages with only lyrics written before 1923 MetroLyrics may not be used as a Wikipedia reference." This is incorrect. Metrolyrics has a license with Gracenote. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.144.99.109 (talk) 04:28, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The license with Gracenote apparently does not avoid the situation where lyrics *might* be displayed without the copyright holder's knowledge, permission and remuneration. This is contrary to Wikipedia policy. If you have a different understanding, please state it here, and I will draw the appropriate administrator's attention to it. In the meanwhile, I have an administrator's opinion that MetroLyrics is disallowed as an external link. Please do not replace the notice until this is resolved. Thank you, Piano non troppo (talk) 18:56, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

With all due respect you are incorrect. There are many illegal lyrics providers. However, Metrolyrics was the 1st legal provider and have extended their agreement with Gracenote. I suggest that you call up Gracenote and ask them to confirm the complete legality of the site. Users often submit lyrics on the site and wherever it is possible to trace the copyright holder they are renumerated. This is a model of fair play for the industry, as opposed to how you frame it. Note that Metrolyrics is partnered with AOL Music, Billboard etc. Do you think they would allow/condone what you suggest above? I also noticed that someone removed Metrolyrics Founder Milun Tesovic as a person of note...saying his bio was self-interested. It seems that you may have a vested interest in attacking this business. Please treat it fairly. You should note that Milun recently won the world title at the 2009 Global Student Entrepreneur awards and is one of the most successful young entrepreneurs in Canada. Please do your diligence by googling him and re-insert his bio. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.144.99.109 (talk) 01:25, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

For whatever reason, there was no copyright clearance for metrolyrics.com, and no action relative to request posted on February 24, 2010. Please be advised that metrolyrics does compensate copyright holders for every copyrighted content featured on metrolyrics.com with no exception. Please contact MetroLeap Media Inc. for more information and clarification if needed at www.metroleap.com/contact.php or by telephone at +1 604 421-9871. It appears that Wikipedia has double standard when it comes to lyrics and copyright: while metrolyrics is excluded from referencing, other lyrics sites (most of which are not compensating copyright holders) are referenced very often in Wikipedia such as AZLyrics.com with over 500 references. MetroLyrics cuts royalty payments for EVERY lyric displayed on metrolyrics.com from the very first moment it is featured on the site. We take that this matter will be resolved in a timely manner, providing there is no protectionism and editors self interest for not doing so. While there is no action at Wikipedia relative to properly acknowledging metrolyrics copyright status, there is always prompt action bringing back reference exclusion statement in the article when removed by wiki contributors. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.129.82.75 (talk) 18:19, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
