ap Hywel

[edit]

The Brut seems to call Meurig's father Hywel king of Glamorgan (=Glywysing) but then makes his presumptive brother Ithel ap Hywel king of Glamorgan and Gwent after Meurig's death. Given that Hywel ap Rhys was said to have reigned from c. 840 – c. 880 and had other sons who lived to the mid-10th century, he presumably isn't the father of the pair but I can't find another Hywel in the Gwentian genealogies of e.g. EBK... — LlywelynII 21:59, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Brut/Annales

[edit]

Of course, in the Brut, Meurig's death precedes Ithel's and, in the Annales B, it's the other way around. — LlywelynII 22:00, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
