[edit]

Due to my starting my stub without being sure which was his major source of notability, i only discovered the existing article after completing this (& rescuing some misnamed lks intended for him). Someone with more interest should probably check for conflict among sources (i notice place of death), and leave a note below indicating that everything of value in my stub is also covered adequately in the article.

Michael Costa (Feb. 4, 1810 - April 29, 1884) was an Italian-born British composer and conductor.
He was born at Naples into a family of Sephardic background. Before the age of 20 he had traveled to England and been useful at a music festival in Birmingham; he acquired British nationality about 10 years laters, and repeatedly conducted various British orchestras for a period of over four decades.
He wrote nine operas and ballets, and four oratorios and cantatas.
He died at Brighton at the age of 74.
