The following are a copy of the external links which had been left on the page and are now being deleted. I am posting them here for everyone's easy access should you wish to put them back and can refer to them.

Controversy[edit]

I don't think the controversy described is significant enough to be in the article. It's not encyclopedic. Are there cites for it outside of the blogosphere? Rlitwin 17:29, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

should be reworked, probably, but it was a fairly major deal in the library profession at the time; threw his ALA presidency and competency into question. Not sure if there are any cites outside the blogosphere, other than the original article. It would make most sense to keep in the context of an expanded article, which I'm working on. But, if it seems completely un-notable, I'm fine with leaving it out as well. phoebe 00:14, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I beg to differ. It was not a major deal in the library profession at the time and it did not throw his competency or presidency into question. It only did this within the library blogosphere, which is a really small corner of the profession that simply doesn't read enough of the main literature of the profession to have an accurate sense of the actual place and significance of its discourse. That may be different in 10 years, but right now it's a small minority of librarians who are bloggers and pretty much nobody outside of that group found this matter to be significant. That is why I think it doesn't belong in the article. Rlitwin 03:15, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Rlitwin, and have deleted the comment, leaving the refs, which are enough of a hint until the rewrite. If you want to use it in the expanded article, fine, Personally, I dont think his bio is worth a major expansion, but if you want to do it, I've no real objection. MR. GORMAN SHOULD POST HIS RESUME ELSEWHERE. THIS SHOULD BE DELETED. NO SELF_PROMOTION! THIS IS NOT A BIOGRAPHY -- THIS IS A SELF_PROMOTING RESUME — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.229.113.10 (talkcontribs)

Merger proposal[edit]

I propose that The works of Michael Gorman be merged into Michael Gorman (librarian). I think that the content in The works of Michael Gorman is already mostly covered in the bibliography section of Michael Gorman (librarian), and most of the remaining content in The works of Michael Gorman is either personal commentary on the works, or outright WP:PROMO. Mr. Credible (talk) 13:26, 24 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I concur with this merger proposal. the "works" aricle is simply not a type of article that we write on WP. Any relevant info should be brought here (full bibliography, major themes in his works, and any significant critical responses). We don't need such extensive summaries of each book, although one or two sentences would probably be alright. If any of the books have received significant coverage in multiple, independent reliable sources, they could get their own individual articles with a more detailed discussion there. I've now merged the "Themes in Work" section to the very similar section Michael Gorman (librarian)#Perspectives. I also cleaned up the "ibids" and some of the duplicate references there. Mr. Credible (talk) 08:09, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
