TRB column?[edit]

Kinsley became editor of The New Republic in 1979 and wrote that magazine's famous TRB column...

Apparently it's not that famous. I've never heard of it, I can't figure out what TRB stands for, and there's no WP article on it. What is it? --Tysto 21:38, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is Kinsley now a regular Time or Time.com columnist?[edit]

I just searched the Time website and found a bunch of columns--perhaps bi-weekly in 2008. I wonder if anyone knows his official relationship to Time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.86.248.1 (talk) 21:38, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

praise[edit]

Wow! its july 24th, and already there's an entry on a surgery two weeks before. This on a I venture saying low frequency article. This stuff is almost real-time encyclopeding!!!

You guys are great!! --213.54.166.204 00:18, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

POV deleted[edit]

This is a factual article about Kinsley, not a debate about his views. The pasting of someone else's (Chomsky's) POV doesn't make it any less POV. Furthermore, the person who inserted the POV describes Kinsley's "reporting". Kinsley is not a reporter, he is a columnist who writes opinion pieces.—J M Rice 20:33, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Plagarized?[edit]

this entire article seems to be lifted from http://www.spiritus-temporis.com/michael-kinsley/ , or vice versa. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jlricherson (talkcontribs) 19:33, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That page says, at the bottom, "Some of the information on this page come from a Wikipedia article and are licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License." That makes it fairly likely that the information in the Wikipedia article came first.
A more definitive answer would come from looking at older versions of that page, and comparing them to older versions of the Wikipedia article. The latter is, of course, available via the "View History" tab. The former is typically available at archive.org. However, the owner of spiritus-temporis.com has chosen to block robots from copying the page, including robots from archive.org. Thus there is no independent source to look at older versions of that particular page. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 05:58, 10 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Bigotry[edit]

In a Bloomberg column on September 29, 2011, Kinsley wrote

"So why should Christie’s weight be more than we can bear in a president? Why should it even be a legitimate issue if he runs? One reason is that a presidential candidate should be judged on behavior and character, not just on policies . . . . Perhaps Christie is the one to help us get our national appetites under control. But it would help if he got his own under control first." http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-09-30/requiem-for-a-governor-before-he-s-in-the-ring-michael-kinsley.html#disqus_thread

I think that kind of bigotry is relevant enough to be included in the main article. Or you could just wait a few days until Bloomberg fires him. Ray Eston Smith Jr (talk) 23:02, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"This article is outdated."[edit]

Who gets to render such pronouncements in a Wikipedia article? Is there some elite who have the authority to judge things like this and, for example, what is biased (which has been used to justify continuing right wing bias and remove objective criticism)? ---Dagme (talk) 02:32, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Health update?[edit]

There are at least a few of us (somewhat)-right-of-center folk who nonetheless delighted in Kinsley's always perspicacious analyses, I presume he'd be gratified to know. Accordingly, can someone in a position to know kindly post an update, here in the Talk sector if not the Wiki entry proper?

The last time I saw him on television was circa 2013, and the impact of his Parkinson's was, sadly, severe, to the point where his familiar nebbish voice was nearly unintelligible. So it's obvious why he can't do TV or radio these days, but does his 2019 condition even prevent him from writing? I gather Parkinson's, unlike some nervous-system-damaging diseases, also affects the mind of at least some victims, and of course I hope that's not the case with Kinsey. Thanks in advance for any responsive input, and if Kinsey himself happens upon these words: like you, Mr. Kinsey, I'm far from being a G-d-fearing (or even -believing) guy, so I'd be pulling your secular leg to claim I'm praying for a Parkinson's miracle here...but I CAN await its G-d-knows-how-but-hooray spontaneous remission!
