Style[edit]

An edit of 6th July 2007 substitutes by 1954 standards with within 1954 standards. I am familiar with the first form but have never before seen or heard the second, so this "improvement" is a surprise. To me, it sounds awkward and is confusing. Is it a US idiom? Michael Rennie as Klaatu Image Fair Use Assertion[edit]

Michael Rennie (deceased) shall never be availabe to create a new free image.
Given this article states Michael Rennie is "best known" as Klaatu which IMO statisfies Wikipedia:Non-free content#Acceptable images "8. Images with iconic status or historical importance: As subjects of commentary." as iconic within the science-fiction film genre.
Given Wikipedia:Non-free content#Unacceptable images has exception "12. ... However, for some retired or disbanded groups, or retired individuals whose notability rests in part on their earlier visual appearance, a new picture may not serve the same purpose as an image taken during their career."

Therefore I assert this Image:Klaatu Incognito.jpg image depicting this notable deceased actor in his iconic role qualifies to illustrate this article. There being no objection, I shall add the image to the Infobox after seven days. Conrad T. Pino 03:47, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Popular Culture[edit]

I would like to add the following to the article under the heading "Popular Culture". I'd like some feedback on this first, though.

The first line of the song "Science Fiction/Double Feature" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" is:

"Michael Rennie was ill the day the earth stood still"

Personal Life section 'chatty'[edit]

Portions of the section on his personal life, particular those centered around the (linked, not displayed, which is itself awkward) pictures of his son, read more like an article in a fanzine than an encyclopedia. Smoking[edit]

War service[edit]

This section is rather confused. Why the discharge and next-day re-enlistment? At what point was he trained in the USA? And what about resigning his commission? Does this mean he was demoted to the ranks for some reason? Normally you couldn't just resign from the service in mid-war. Valetude (talk) 18:43, 30 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Valetude, although the bit about Rennie being discharged and then re-enlisting is not necessarily puzzling - my father did it that way during the war when he was discharged as an enlisted man and then immediately re-upped as an officer since he had graduated from Officer Candidate School (in the US). But resigning your commission? In the middle of a war? That is very unusual. Was there some extraordinary medical or personal reason? That should be clarified. The Robe and Demetrius and the Gladiators[edit]

The article makes it sound as if he only appears briefly in flashback in Demetrius when, in fact, he is one of the main characters in the film. Perhaps this should be clarified. Jean Simmons only appears in flashback, without Rennie, in the prologue of Demetrius.

Birthplace[edit]

You give his birthplace as Idle, near Bradford, Yorkshire. But you then claim he was born near the birthplace of Ronald Colman. The Wiki page on Colman gives Richmond, Surrey as his birthplace. Valetude (talk) 14:11, 5 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Cause of death[edit]

In the == Death == section it is stated Michael Rennie died of an aortic aneurysm whereas the article is tagged 'Deaths from emphysema'. Which is it? 13:37, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
