Map

Regarding the removal of the map, there has been a request at the Maps Task Force of USRD to get a new one created based on GIS information. When it's redone, it will also be up to date in terms of current project standards for map colors. The usual map creators have been busy, but one is coming at some point. Name change

Since the bulk of the article is about the State Trunkline Highway System, which is a legal definition from Public Act 51 of 1951, I've moved the article accordingly. Imzadi 1979  02:03, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

I-94 -- first cross-state Interstate in America?

Before 1960 several states had completed cross-state tollways, including the Connecticut Turnpike, New York State Thruway System, Pennsylvania Turnpike, Indiana Toll Road, and Ohio Turnpike. These have since been incorporated fully (or almost fully) into the Interstate Highway System if not entirely as one route. The distinction is that Interstate 94 is non-tolled in Michigan except for the Blue Water Bridge at the Canadian border.

Technically, Michigan completed the short segment of Interstate 94 west of M-239 southwest of New Buffalo but did not open it until 1972, when Indiana opened its section of Interstate 94. Pbrower2a (talk) 03:45, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

The "non-tolled" you added isn't needed. The other facilities you mention here weren't built as Interstates, and they weren't necessarily built to Interstate Highway standards. Any deviations from the standards for the system approved in 1957 were grandfathered in, like the lack of full separation of the two directions of traffic on the Mackinac Bridge, for instance. I-94 in Michigan is still the first border-to-border freeway built as an Interstate to be completed. Imzadi 1979  03:57, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
