List of schools in Middleton

I dont really see why you want to remove it? It serves well as a valid reference material for anyone wanting to know what schools are in middleton. There is a similar table for rochdale here which includes some of these schools, some schools in middleton do generally fall under the category of rochdale however not all schools in rochdale are in middleton (obviously). I doubt theres nearly enough for middleton's schools to qualify for their own page. Other rochdale sub-boroughs have listed schools e.g. Castleton,Milnrow middleton just happens to have significantly more and so a table is more appropriate for displaying them. I'd argue that its easier to read than milnrow's for the purpose of identifying which schools are present.--MattMPh (talk) 10:21, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

Similar tables are available for greater manchester towns - Clifton I would propose making this table more uniform with the larger rochdale table rather than removing it (and thus deleting any record of Alderman Kay School).

I think the point is that list of schools in Rochdale covers the whole metropolitan borough and has the same purpose as the brief list here; the table is sortable so it's easy to see which schools are in Middleton. Removing the list from this article doesn't result in a loss of information, and the link is still prominent, so the question is "is it worth duplicating the list?" The relevant part of WP:UKTOWNS#Education, the guideline used to write settlement articles in the UK, states "If a town, write about the local secondary school and any grammar, public or specialist schools. A list of primary schools is not usually appropriate (especially if there are more than three); although a total number of how many may be useful." I can understand the temptation to include such lists, I added one to the article on Sale, Greater Manchester years ago, but I think the consensus it to direct the reader to more specialised lists. There have been a few reverts over this, can this please stop. The article won't fall apart if the "wrong version" in in place while this is under discussion. Nev1 (talk) 12:57, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

The guideline is written in a stepwise fashion, with smaller districts displaying more local information. In theory, the primary schools of alkrington and Langley should be listed on their respective pages. In which case, the three secondary schools should be listed in this page while the Sixth Form Colleges attached to cardinal langley and St Anne's should be listed in the Rochdale (or indeed manchester) page. I propose the list remains fixed as it is currently the best option until other items are put into place. If middleton is indeed entirely part of rochdale, perhaps the rochdale page should better reflect this middleton is discussed as its own town, the only reference made to middleton as a subsection of rochdale is that it is part of the rochdale Met borough (although the rochdale schools list does seem to be based on rochdale as a met borough as opposed to a town. --MattMPh (talk) 14:31, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

Rather than a list, albeit in a table, I'd recommend using prose. The focus should be on the secondary schools, and prose would allow more detail than a table. There are three secondary schools in the town, I think a sentence or two could be added on each. For example "In 1995, Middleton Technology School became the first technology college in North West England; a mixed-sex school, its last Ofsted report was in 2006 when it had around 1,000 pupils and was assessed as outstanding."
