All caps![edit]

Whole article is in upper case!!! It seems some one just copied this text from elsewhere and pasted it here! Well, if other Wikipedians do not object and agree to keep this text, I can then convert it to a usual form. A simply C++ code will do. Niaz bd 09:26, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Public university??[edit]

According to the official site of this institute it is not a university at all, but rather is an institute. Therefore, it can in no way be a public university. Aditya(talkcontribs) 11:31, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I do agree with you. I think we should prepare a separate section in the name of Higher Educational Institute or such and list institutions like this one at that section. Niaz bd 12:44, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. And, those institutes can come under the university wikiproject as well. Aditya(talkcontribs) 13:00, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, we can develop those articles under WikiProject Universities/Bangladeshi Universities also. Niaz bd 15:23, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MIST is not a university. Its still an institution under DU.but may be in the year of 2009 or 2010 it is going to be named as Bangladesh university of professionals.ohorit. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ohorit (talkcontribs) 09:54, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's a disaster[edit]

Almost every single line of this article is wrong, suspect or both. Almost every single policy and guideline has been violated (check the article issues tag on top of the page). Even the Bengali name for the institute suspect (Military is Shamorik in Bengali). What to do? AfD? Aditya(talkcontribs) 19:05, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I do agree with you that every single line of this article violates WP rules but still I think we should not go for deletion. As we have a plan to cover all the educational institutions from Bangladesh, today or tomorrow we need to create this article again. So, we better reshape its contents and include improvement tags like North South University. Niaz bd 11:02, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I read the ariticle .I have not found any mistakes yet.If there is i will be highly glad if u can mention and give the chance to MISTians to correct it. ohorit .

An email and my reply[edit]

Today I received an email from an anonymous user who took our discussion regarding MIST too personally and left me a harsh and emotional email. Here it is:

Ohorit <arvi_eece[AT]yahoo[DOT]com>

Starts

Mr NIYAZ i have read an article in wikipedia today about MIST.i am a student of MIST.u was asking if MIST is a public or private university.first thing that i want to say is you dont have right to talk about MIST when u was not given the chance to talk.the next thing is i think ur education has some problem which can be seemed from ur talking in there.well i dont have enough time to talk bout ur illiteracy.what i want to say is dont make bogus confusions.when an institute is under dhaka university then how can it be private can u say me?when bit was not a university and was an institute then was it called as a private?
the next thing is that u r saying about its high cost.well may be u dont know the criteria of MIST.privates when taking 6-7 lakh taka for a bsc degree MIST is taking only 1 lakh taka because it is going to make the biggest fascilated university and for that need some help from people(read students) also.you know we dont have to buy books from outside shops.because MIST is providing us that.so ultimately the expense of buet and MIST is same.and now a days MIST is providing the best lab fascility that is said by the PROFESSORS teaching in MIST.and teachers are not paid in private university scales.it is quite low.MIST is providing 3 halls for students and many teachers quarters.is there any private universities in bangladesh who can provide those?and mr do you know in the recent budget MIST has got a amount of 12 crore.now dont say that private universities get budget for their university.pls be capable at first to talk about a university.then write ARTICLEs.in wikipedia there is no good article of MIST because we are not much awared yet to publish one.wateva, keep ur knowledge on yours pls.after knowing something well, then comment bout it.when dept heads and vc's of several universities are making conferences at MIST about the hazardous problems in Bangladesh, from where u little ppl come to talk bout MIST i don get it.pls be careful next time.

Ends

We must remember that whatever we are doing here is a non-paid volunteer job. Our aim is to prepare Bangladesh related articles in an encyclopedic way. We use to discuss on different issues to discover the fact. But it does not mean that we keep any intention to attack or defame someone or some institution. Ragib Bhaia, Arman Bhaia, Aditya Bhaia, Nahid and other Bangladeshi Wikipedians are trying hard to improve Bangladeshi articles here. They are all extremely busy persons, someone is doing his PhD or someone is serving as a banker in abroad. Still they manage their valuable time for Wikipedia. It shows their dedication and love for their motherland. I hope in future people like you would be more supportive to the Wikipedians and their activities.

Kind regards,

Niaz(Talk • Contribs) 13:49, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently this person was referring to this discussion when he said "i have read an article in wikipedia today about MIST", where the public university debate featured concerns about MIST's costs and government grants. Aditya(talkcontribs) 20:07, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Annual Budget[edit]

Can anyone give me the amount of annual budget of MIST granted by the government? Hasan —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hasandhaka (talkcontribs) 11:22, 16 December 2007 (UTC) Yeap i can.Last year MIST got 12 crore tk budget from govt bd.[reply]

Hello IP address 122.102.61.18, can you give me a web reference? Hasan 19:33, 11 March 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hasandhaka (talkcontribs)

Citation[edit]

In the article i feel all the citations are now covered up by references according to websites. Please advice if the citations are ok.

I have made some changed(wrote some lines about AE department). Is it ok?Any kind of advices are very much appreciated.Ohorit (talk) 07:05, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article is now ok.But we need some info's about the new department "Aeronautical Engineering".Ohorit (talk) 06:37, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article can be clarified by visiting the official site of MIST.All the lab description and facilities are described in the website.Anything like an advertisement has been deleted.Hope wiki authority will give a kind look again if they find any shortcomings now.Ohorit (talk) 09:33, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A very outrageous introduction[edit]

I am not understanding that how such introduction can have a place in this article and the editors don't even take a look onto it!!!

MIST is the most technologically developed Engineering institution now in Bangladesh.Every foreign university faculty now a days comes first to visit MIST labs and research stations. You can have the proof by checking newspapers. How come this kind of blasphemy be shown to write such object able words about MIST?Really surprised.Ohorit (talk) 12:11, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What a mess!!![edit]

This whole article is a total mess. Full of grammatical errors and wrong editing styles. Content is not encyclopedic. For example look the edit <http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Military_Institute_of_Science_and_Technology&oldid=211616057>

“3.1 Department of ME

It means department of MECHANICAL ENGINEERING.At presant it is developed with anormous labs.In the session of 2007-2008 Batch-6(ME-6) has joined in MIST.Tow Batch have passed from MIST.You know it is operated by the Bangladesh army. Some of army offiecer are sent to MIST from EME(Electrical and mechanical engineering),core,Bangladesh Nevy & Bangladesh Air-force also sent their offiecer in MIST.”

There are lots and lots of error. Whenever I change them user Incognito.rochi undoes them.

I will not do anymore. Hå§åñ 17:19, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is a complete mess[edit]

This article is nothing but a piece of advertisement for the so called MIST. some needs to clean this up. The other way is to remove every single bit of advertisement from it. An encyclopedia is no place for this kind of crap. Aditya(talkcontribs) 14:27, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mr Aditya sir,I am not getting why are you saying this article as an example of advertisement?Well I made a through reading of it and finds nothing but informations.Despite you want to indicate this article as an advertisement, please feel free to mention those parts of it in here. And next time I will be glad if you sir, behave with etiquette talking about a university of your country. This is not so called MIST,this is MIST.And the craps(in your language) you mentioned,we can improve it.Is not it brother? But I want to request you humbly to make constructive comments please.Comments like removing article,I should expect it only from the admins (Ragib vaiya). We both are editors and trying to have our country's place in Wiki right sir?Ohorit (talk) 23:00, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not exactly. We are trying build an encyclopedia, by filling in information gaps about Bangladesh and more, not by advertising for something. Aditya(talkcontribs) 00:24, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have tried my best to clean up the article. Most of the content in the "departments" section was redundant, so replaced that with a list of the departments. (The syllabus of each department is entirely unencyclopedic, and doesn't belong here). Also, removed some POV statements from various places. The article badly needs references for the remaining content. --Ragib (talk) 00:31, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Importance rating[edit]

First thing am not biased with it.I just want to get a suggestion if it's ok for the country's only military institute(for engg) and one of the 5 public engineering universities can have low importance in this wikiproject.I think if BUET,DU or CUET gets a high level importance it should get minimum a mid importance may be.I have seen some private universities got low importance ranking but some got mid.Don't you think it's creating some discriminations and students seeing their university article having low importance when others like them get above it will be dissuaded?Well I just made my comment on this by reviewing some other's comment on the discussion page of their university article and just thought may be we should have a NPOV on this.Advices are very much appreciated.Thank you.Ohorit (talk) 22:05, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Since the Wikipedia is not an adevrtising/promotional site, the importance comes from actual importance. Was this MIST covered a lot by media, has it made big contributions to the nation as whole or to education yet? has it turned out any great alumni or researches? If not, then it is of very low importance, much lower than, say Comilla Victoria College. Aditya(talkcontribs) 09:16, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reply to Aditya Kabir[edit]

Dear Mr Aditya Kabir, nice responce from you to a new editor. And hell yeah I am so much tired of your word Advertisement from a long time and I assure you I know this term like you know. You can get the evidence of it by the modified article. Now here's the answers of your questions:

1.Was this(Is this a good way of showing modesty for an prestigious institute in your country) MIST covered a lot by media?

Oh yeah any sentient civic viewing newspaper and television channels know about this Govt institute for some of it's project and recent developments(starting of AE,first time in Bangladesh).May be you have not noticed the columns of MIST Job fair,IT fair and televisions programs separately made for them.

2.has it made big contributions to the nation as whole or to education yet?

Sir,I am surprised that you have asked this question and don't know about the voter id project. The software, the implications and it's execution all of it was made by MIST.The national ID you got now is nothing but a contribution of the Engineers and Engg. std of MIST.(I have even given a picture of it as an evidence which you removed saying as an advertisement and yeah I am supporting you on that). The national ID card is given to every developed country in the world, but in developing country like Bangladesh it was possible with the hardnut effort of MIST students who neglected their term-end vacation for the work of national ID and more than 80% of the students were involved to the project in different locations of Dhaka. Now sir it's your matter if you can consider it as a contribution to nation or not.[source: http://www.thedailystar.net/story.php?nid=33440].And to education,as I have mentioned above, opened a new section in our country named as Aeronautical Engineering.

3.has it turned out any great alumni or researches?

Sir to have the alumni you need to visit the website of MIST.And for research, for a new born baby like MIST it can't be possible to be a enriched part in that section.Though in ICCIT,BES and engineering journals of universities,MIST has a lot of articles and research papers.

Hope you get acknowledged with the national contributions of MIST now.Hope you can stop disrespecting a well known engineering institute which is clearly visible from your comments.Ohorit (talk) 18:24, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Ohorit, the media coverage you cite actually is probably not the coverage Aditya referred to. Many organizations get mentioned in news papers everyday... in a trivial manner (such as, so and so meeting was held in XYZ univ, or a job fair was held in XYZ univ). These trivial mentions do not assert notability of any organization. The importance rating in the article talk page is not a big deal, and please focus on the article content. For example, you can provide some 3rd party references rather than always referring to BUP website. Good luck. --Ragib (talk) 18:35, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ragib vaiya importance rating is not my point in any ways.I am just surprised the style of asking by Aditya sir.The comments can be constructive like you gave me with an understanding explanation without making disrespect to anyone or anything(Thank you for that and I liked you from the day I heard about you in newspaper.Comments like that can only be expected from a devoted person like you). Yeah I am going to refer some 3rd party references as soon as possible inshAllah.Ohorit (talk) 18:52, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ragib Vai, may I know who is this Aditya? - nayeem.mahmud

Why do you want to know? Aditya(talkcontribs) 02:57, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Ohorit, first of all I would like to welcome you in this challenging but interesting world - the world of Wikipedia. Though Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia, but we have a set of specific rules what we call policies. Policies are like constitutional bindings and restrictions on what you can do and what you cant. As long as you stay within policies, you can edit and add anything on Wikipedia. Remember, Wikipedia is not censored!
  1. Now, I am moving towards the discussion going on here. I have gone through your previous posts. It is really nice to see that someone is interested to prepare MIST article. I wont comment on how big or how small MIST is, but if you want, you can go up to FA with this article. You may notice that one of the James Bond movies, Casino Royale (2006 film) is a FA but surprisingly Bond's country, England or United Kingdom or his city London is just a GA :-) (Also note that Bangladesh is a FA!). What I am trying to indicate is that, importance does not necessarily make editor to work on rather it is interest that matters. And importance scale should not be an issue while working on an article. General reader even wont see this scale. So, I will request you to concentrate on improving contents of this article instead of losing your energy in meaningless debate.
  2. Now Advertisement! It's natural that when people write anything about an organization or location from where he comes from, he gets biased. We are all human being and that's the reality. Wikipedia also knows it and allows other users to revert any inappropriate information. Despite the fact that Ragib Bhaia belongs to BUET but I have seen him reverting content from BUET article when he feels them inappropriate even though they were in favor of his institution. So, again I would request you to be tolerant on others' edit and try to improve this article without violating any policy. Remember, No Advertisement is a Wikipedia policy and you can not write any content that sounds like you are promoting your institution. You have to be neutral and unbiased. In case you failed to act so, other people will guide you on the right track.
  3. About citations. Please do not add too many citations from the official site. They will not receive greater value when you go for GA or FA fight with this article. Try to add appropriate third party references from online or even offline. Format your citations properly with access date and author.
  4. You are always free to add pictures. In fact, this is a major part of improving any article. But, do not copy images from the web. Those pictures will be deleted soon! If you have digital camera, just make a plan, visit your campus widely and take some photographs. Bingo! Upload them and no one will come to delete them.
You have my gmail address and feel free to buzz me when you face any difficulties. I am sure other members working on this article will also help you as long as you stay within policies :-D. Cheers. -- Niaz(Talk • Contribs) 19:35, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As I have said vaiya,I am not really biased with the rating(I have shown full respect to the editor and have not re-changed it).I was just surprised to get unusual comments from one of my senior respected editor. And yeah not only with the article of MIST but also I want to work with some other articles ASAP.I want to be a part of Wikiproject Bangladesh and inshAllah we will make it a successfull one.Ohorit (talk) 19:50, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I do appreciate your interest and willingness to work. Hope you'll enjoy this place. Cheers. -- Niaz(Talk • Contribs) 13:57, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

  1. Varistyadmission and edunetbd etc. admission-guide type sites are not at all usable as sources for any information.
  2. And the rest of the references are all from BUP or MIST site. This article needs 3rd party reliable sources.

--Ragib (talk) 07:13, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vaiya agreed with you.But I have not got any references yet.Hope other wikipedians can give me some positive clues regarding that.Ohorit (talk) 11:19, 12 November 2008 (UTC)Ohorit[reply]

I don't think there's many 3rd party informations available for this newly formed barely notable organization. Everything that's written has been written by the people of the organization, and was written for advertisement purpose. Sad, but true. Ohorit, I know, you are trying. But, while you try, please, see that promotion of the organization doesn't become our motive. Aditya(talkcontribs) 02:47, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

First of all,MIST is not an organization who runs their activity by human or group of human to promote a product rather than an institution run by Govt of BD for educational purpose.Leaving you,my other prudent editors may have a good idea that Defence and Defence regulated institutions are always prohibited for any kind of media performance or advertisement(so references are hard to get).Sad but true, you barely know about that. And my dear Aditya sir,how many times I have to explain you I know what is wikipedia as I feel myself as a part of it too now.No one is promoting anything in here rather than trying to get some references regarding the article.Well,I know that references are not available for the institution like my former university(DU).But yeah I am going to collect some ASAP(No Aditya sir,I am not trying now as I am having some busy schedule).Hope Ragib vaiya and my other friendly editors can give me some times to have references. And please Aditya sir,you may help me to enrich the article rather than presenting the wiki policies(Hell yeah,I know and am trying to know all of them)or true factors belonging the Institution. But whatever is the purpose of your advices, thank you and hope to have some more in near future.Ohorit (talk) 12:51, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Is there any ref for the Bengali name of the organization? Does it even have a Bengali name? If not, then we should remove the Bangla name from the first sentence of the article.
  • Again, the article badly needs 3rd party sources. --Ragib (talk) 22:26, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is MIST an University or a Institute?[edit]

আর Engineering & Technology (BUET, CKRUET, DUET) এবং Science & Technology (SUST, HUSTU, PUST...)

[[যেমন: • বাংলাদেশের সকল মেডিকেল কলেজ "স্বাস্থ্য মন্ত্রণালয়" (স্বাস্থ্য ও পরিবার কল্যাণ মন্ত্রণালয়) [Ministry of Health and Family Welfare -MHFW] এর অধিনস্থ স্বাস্থ্য পরিষেবা বিষয়ক সর্বোচ্চ প্রশাসনিক কার্যালয় "স্বাস্থ্য অধিদপ্তর" [Directorate General of Health Services -DGHS] থেকে পরিচালিত হয়।

[Ministry of Textiles and Jute -MOTJ] অধিনস্থ "বস্ত্র অধিদপ্তর" [Department of Textiles -DOT] থেকে পরিচালিত হয়।

[Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock -MOFL] অধিনস্থ "মৎস অধিদপ্তর" [Department of Fisheries -DOF] থেকে পরিচালিত হয়।

Bangladesh University of Professionals (abbreviated as BUP)

Military "Institute" of "Science and Technology" (MIST) Engineering Related!

— Preceding unsigned comment added by Md.Mahfujur Rahman Nisad (talkcontribs) 12:46, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Is BUP a University?

- Yes. It is the 31st public university of Bangladesh. affiliated with University Grants Commission (Bangladesh).

  • Is Mist a University?
