Lede paragraph (establishing notability)[edit]

I don't doubt that MC is notable (as a CGM recipient for example), but the first sentence (which normally establishes notability) says "[He] is the father of black aviation in Arkansas.". As Black aviation (if indeed there is such a thing) isn't notable enough to already have a WP article I can't see how being the "father" of it in a particular state confers notability. Also the reference to "our country" is inappropriate in an international encyclopedia. Could someone who knows the subject fix these and any similar issues ? Tuskegee Airman[edit]

I would ask to refrain from removing his status as Tuskegee Airman as literally every single reliable source he is. If you want to start an RfC to get community opinion or whatever, that is fine, but clearly the wider world consider him a Tuskegee Airman. To say he is not would go against every reliable source that discusses Crenchaw and would require significant evidence to the contrary. It looks like an interpretation of another more general source that doesn't even mention Crenchaw. We have lots of specific sources about Crenchaw. -- GreenC 03:49, 15 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:GreenC he was a civilian instructor, not enlisted in the USAAF, accordingly I don't see that he does qualify as a Tuskegee Airman despite what recent media reports say. He instructed at Tuskegee Institute, he did not graduate from there so it is not his alma mater. Mztourist (talk) 05:26, 15 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
He is a Documented Original Tuskegee Airman (DOTA). He falls within the definition of a DOTA, civilians included. He received the Congressional Gold Medal because of his status as a DOTA. Only DOTA can receive the CGM. Reliable sources confirm he received the CGM. Reliable sources confirm he is a DOTA: "He received numerous awards, accolades and certificates for his role as a Documented Original Tuskegee Airmen (DOTA)"[1] -- GreenC
There might also be conflating Tuskegee Airman with Tuskegee airmen. We are talking about the proper noun, the definition of Tuskegee Airmen includes:
"Anyone -- man or woman, military or civilian, black or white- - who served at Tuskegee Army Air Field or in any of the programs stemming from the 'Tuskegee Experience' between the years 1941-1949 is considered to be a documented Original Tuskegee Airman (DOTA)."
