Wrong title[edit]

The MRC was formed by authorization of Congress (U.S. Code title 33, Chapter 13, Section 641) in 1879. Then, as now, the seven-member commission consisted of three Corps officers, including the president; one member from the Coast and Geodetic Survey; and three civilians, two of whom had to be civil engineers. The website for the Mississippi River Commission (MRC) is (http://www.mvd.usace.army.mil/mrc/history/index.php), which of course is the MVD website, but includes; "The originating legislation granted the MRC extensive jurisdiction on the Mississippi River from its headwaters at Lake Itasca , Minnesota , to the Head of Passes near the Gulf of Mexico."

MRC President and Mission Execution

"The President of the Mississippi River Commission is its executive head. The mission is executed through the Mississippi Valley Division, U.S. Army Engineer Districts in St. Louis, Memphis, Vicksburg, and New Orleans." Ref: (http://www.mvd.usace.army.mil/defaultex.php?pID=mission}

This makes the MVD an executive "branch" of the MRC and not just that the MRC is a "complimentary" organization. This means that, along with the fact that the MRC was authorized by Congress, that a)- the article name is wrong, b)- the redirect is certainly wrong, and c)- that either the name be changed or a separate MRC article be created and the redirect removed.

The logical solution, with the evidence, would be the title changed to Mississippi River Commission and information included for MVD, but this requires extensive work. There are "ample" sources and references for a Mississippi River Commission article. I hope someone will look at this and provide a remedy. Otr500 (talk) 01:42, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
