Date of Birth - 3 April or 8 May?

[edit]

I note that we showed 3 April until last month, when it was changed to 8 May. No reason or rationale was given. Presumably, it was to conform to IMDB. This says she was born born April 3, 1929 at 11:16 PM in Hokkaido, and this, this, this, this and this also give the 3 April birthdate. Various other sources say 8 May. I've not found any discussion anywhere on Google as to why one date was preferred over the other. Can anyone shed light on this? -- JackofOz 01:43, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Social Security Death Index says 8 May

I agree - I also did a SSDI check and got the exact same results; SSDI is obviously more reliable than sites like Brainy History or Answers.com which get their info thrid-hand or so. I updated accordingly. Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 22:55, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. Thanks. Maybe we should make some reference in the article to the fact that 3 April appears in various sources, but does not seem to have any basis in fact. -- JackofOz (talk) 00:34, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

East Asian Oscar Winners

[edit]

This article had stated that Miyoshi Umeki was the first and only Oscar winner of East Asian descent. I changed that to winner for acting because clearly many people of East Asian ancestry have won Oscars according to List of Asian Academy Award winners and nominees - for example James Wong Howe won for Cinematography in 1955. But I wonder if it should be changed even further to just the first and only East Asian actress. Yul Brynner won an Oscar the same year as Umeki. According to Brynner's article, he is part Mongolian. According to the East Asia article, Mongolia is part of East Asia. --JamesAM (talk) 06:11, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is still utterly wrong because Dr. Hang S. Ngor won an Academy Award for his role in the Killing Fields. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.251.8.155 (talk) 03:01, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
