There's a lot of stuff that has happened with this material since the last edit. Consider adding modern work, as this article seems to be absolutely dominated by work from the 70's through the 90's.

Thanks for your comments, ‎128.59.247.137, I don't know if you are the same person as the one that added the list below. There is so much research being published that I turned off the google scholar alert for this topic. It is too hard to look at all of them to see what is important. If you know of any really recent reviews or major new articles on this, perhaps you could mention them here: Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:55, 22 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • The Raman spectrum section needs to clarify which structure of MoTe2 it is referring to, as the beta and alpha have different spectra.   • Physical properties - Infrared - 1.141 is out of order.  Done
  • Raman spectrum - "The peak at 234.5 cm-1 are..."  Done
  • The text refers to a frequency increasing from 234.5 to 236.6 but next refers to a frequency lowering from 171.4 to 172.4. Sanity check! (these are two different vibration modes)
  • Crystal form - The text gives a=3.519 but the summary box gives a=3.5139.  Done
  • 7.78 g/cm-1 - should this be g/cm-3?  Done
  • Missing . after 3.53 angstrom  Done
  • 7.5 g/cm, 7.67 g/cm - should this be g/cm3?  Done
  • How can it oxidize to form MoO2 if it is in a vacuum? (that is why the weasel word "claim" is there. Presumably due to trace oxygen and not a true vacuum)
  • Fluorescence - ...haVE been established...  Done
  • Electrical - hole concentration - should cm-1 be cm-3?  Done
  • beta-MoTe2 - it first states that the resistance is .001 but then states that at room temperature it is .000328, and should that be ohm/cm instead of ohmcm (similarly for Td-MoTe2 at 180K)? (correct unit is Ω⋅cm; resistance figures vary wildly between references, likely due to Mo:Te ratio, impurities, defects, temperature, stress)
  • Semiconductor - So (delete that) alpha-MoTe2...  Done
  • "reduced from 0.97 to 0.5" - if the indirect band gap is .88 and direct is 1.02 where does .97 come from? '(a different reference. It gives a clue that non-stochiochemistry is possible and important in this measurement of band gap. Probably researchers do not measure an exact ratio of Mo to Te when publishing their research)
  • Should Magnetic be Magnetism?  Done
  • Microscopy - STM - [24] is shown twice.  Already done
  • Should that be "...onLY tellurium is visible"?  Done
  • Thermal - "These vibrationS can be resolved into phonons in which thE atoms..."  Done
  • Uses - a (not an) FET  Done
  • No space in superconducting  Done
  • References - 17 - should that be ChalCogenides? (no the reference really spells it that way with a k!)
  • 25 appears to be missing part of the title.  Done

Laser transformation challenged

The statement "Because MoTe2 has two phases, devices can be constructed that mix the 2H semiconductor, and the 1T metallic form. A laser can rapidly heat a thin layer to transform it to the metallic form." has been challenged for this reason: "Actually amorphous Tellurium is being formed, not a phase transition from 2H to 1T' - Proof can be seen through comparing Raman spectrums of Te to laser ablated 2H-MoTe2" by 68.59.127.215. Please discuss this here.
