Why not "Mont Sainte-Victoire"? Surely this is far more common? Johnbod 18:37, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Montagne is more common, though arguably not correct. But everyone says la montagne sainte victoire...Zigzig20s 18:49, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In French, locally, perhaps. But Cezanne's paintings are always described as of "Mont" SV, which suggests that is what should be used in WP. Johnbod 19:52, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Basically, 'Mont' is arguably more correct because some say it is not high enough to be a mountain. But I really don't think Cézanne should have his last say on the whole thing, so to speak. There is more to the Sainte-Victoire than just Cézanne.Zigzig20s 04:37, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
WP policy is to use the most commonly used term in English; it didn't help that the article did not even have a redirect from "Mont" - I had great difficulty finding it. Mont is used in other contexts in English also - I had never heard Montagne before. That would of course keep a redirect. I think there should be a poll. Johnbod 14:32, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why not 'Mont'? Because people native to the region knows it as 'montagne' -see for example http://www.aixenprovencetourism.com/aix-sainte-victoire.htm I know this brings up the language issue and that 'montagne' is not an English term (Neither is 'mont'), but there's my twopence worth. 1989 fire pictures?

[edit]

Does anyone have pictures of the infamous 1989 fire? That would be interesting to see...Zigzig20s 05:59, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Panoramic view

[edit]

This is a composite panoramic view that gives a pretty good impression of the mountain. How about it? - Benzband (talk) 19:45, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
