Theodoric the Lombard (etc)

[edit]

I am about to remove a sentence from the article, and place it here for safety

Selected by the Lombard king Theodoric, for his capital, and its first important associations are with Theodelinda, the Lombard queen.

The problem is that it is not at all clear to me which Theodoric is meant, whether he was a Lombard (none of those referenced by Theoderic are, and whether he really did make Monza his capital. And if so when, why or for how long. The claim seems to go back to the Enc. Brit. 1911 article. It is not repeated in the long it.wikipedia article, and google isn’t helping. (My guess, for what it is worth, is that we are talking one Theodoric the Great, who was an Ostrogoth not a Lombard, made his capital in Ravenna and was King of Italy-ish 493ish–526ish.)

I have done some simple restructuring of the article: more with the intention of clarifying what’s missing/unbalanced than of doing anything permanent. I have also done a little copy-editing and sense-making of parts (by no means all) of the article. The problem is that I am no kind of expert here and so it is quite probable that I increased clarity at the expense of accuracy. In other words, some of it may probably be sheer nonsense. In the almost total absence of citations—also in the much fuller, and better structured Italian Wikipedia article—it is hard for me to check where I have gone wrong.

Anyway, I’ll have another look at it in the morning. (Bugger—it is morning here in UTC!) Ian Spackman 06:38, 13 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation?

[edit]

Is ['montsa] the correct pronunciation? Here http://www.forvo.com/word/autodromo_nazionale_monza/ an Italian pronounces it ['monza]. Could anyone who really knows the correct answer reply here? I don't know where else I could ask :) Shakurazz (talk) 17:53, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Both ['montsa] and ['monza] are accepted pronunciations in Italian. Locals tend to call it the former, while elsewhere it is often referred to as the latter. (I live in Monza and my wife's whole family is from here.) Suggest adding both pronunciations to the top of the article? I don't have a firm source, but I do know that it is correct! pronunciation may... vary.

[edit]

As a matter of fact that people from Monza (and their neighbours, too) use a pronuntiation very similar to the file enclosed (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0d/It-Monza.ogg); all other italian people... another. as far as i know this extends to foreign sport (f1) commentors, too... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.0.252.37 (talk) 22:50, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Update of population

[edit]

Goodmorning, I am a student of the University of Bergamo and I am contributing to the articles on Wikipedia for my assignment. Here you can find the structure of our project: Wikipedia:GLAM/UNIBG/Heritage studies and ICT [[1]]. I have decided to update the number of the resident population of the city of Monza because the last was in 2017. --Yaia97 (talk) 17:52, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
