Forever Knight[edit]

I don't think it's entirely unreasonable to point out that the show has similarities to previous shows, although I question the necessity to list them as this poster has. According to the administration you've done nothing but compromise the neutrality of numerous articles on Wikipedia Miss Kiki. "Criticism"[edit]

The entire criticism section merely compares Moonlight to Angel, without citing sources. This hardly seems adequate for an entire section, and without sources, its similarity to Angel being cited as a criticism is not NPOV. XINOPH | TALK 18:32, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think that this article really needs a criticism section, simply because anyone who's watched even one episode of Angel will instantly begin pointing out the obvious similarities. Some of these include: the incessant popping up behind someone else seemingly out of no-where, the black convertible, the attraction to the little blonde girl who is a mortal, killing his ex-lover only for her to somehow come back to haunt him and many more. This could partly be due to David Greenwalt (of Angel fame) doing the showrunning. I'm reluctant to do the edit myself as I don't really have much experience with Wikipedia's rules, but I just thought that I should voice my opinion as I have had conversations with many people about this and I think it needs to be said Niksko (talk) 01:01, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Any content for such a section would have to be from reliable sources, per Wikipedia's guidelines. Blogs, fan sites, and editor opinions do not meet that standard. I think that it would be valid to point out this show's similarities to other media. I'm sort of disturbed at how much it seems to borrow from the Twilight book series by Stephenie Meyer, in which there is a gorgeous immortal vampire who doesn't hunt people and is in love with a mortal girl. *coughs* It's also very fishy that this show was originally titled 'Twilight' as well. -CJ

Moonlight and Twilight are nothing alike at all except the part where they have given up hunting humans. Twilight has become a disappointing series ever since Stephenie Meyer released Breaking Dawn. Moonlight is a vampire-detective series, much different than Twilight, which is a vampire-romance book, where Bella is hopelessly obsessed with Edward, Edward,and EDWARD!At least Beth actually has a life and doesn't obsess over Mick. There is much more than that; some of the examples:

Vampire man, sufficiently old f/ newsstories to be contradictory regarding age, working as private-investigator;

Human woman, who vacillates as to her identity as one or the other, working as either a private-investigator, or as an aggressive investigative-journalist;

These two {pairs}, habitually, save each other, literally & otherwise. In each, some perceive them as partners, others do not. In each, there are various puns, other humor, regarding the historical discrepancies.

Is there anyone who believes that they've seen all, or most, episodes of each?? I have no actual evidence of plagiarism; but, it simply seems that alike.

Neither one has a consistent vampire-slayer, except for the vampire who chooses amongst other vampires.

I've seen both the Blood Ties series and Moonlight and while they are alike, Blood Ties seems to focus more on solving supernatural mysteries while Moonlight, so far, seems based in the "real world." Excluding the vampires. Henry and Viki fight demons on a regular basis. Mick finds missing children. Also, Henry isn't a PI. The lead characters are completely different. The mythology of creatures that exist are completely different. Blood Ties is based on the books by Tanya Huff. Moonlight seems to be based on nothing in particular. If anything, it looks like Forever Knight redone in a US version. There's really no deep connection here.

And if you think they're that similar you should check out the modern conventions (Huff, Hamilton, Harris, Harrison, Banks, Butcher, Green). The paranormal investigator category is currently chock full of stuff, so it starts to look a lot similar. 19:36, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Fan Sites[edit]

Fan sites should not be removed simply because they are fan sites. They should be judged individually. People frequently make the mistake of pointing to WP:EL as if it indicates all fan sites should be removed but this is not true. There have been numerous discussions on similar situations;

However, one must also keep in mind that there is a need to demonstrate why a particular site merits inclusion, otherwise it can and should be removed. There is not an automatic presumption that there has to be a listing, and if a site is linked, there should be consensus as to why that particular site is best. For the current site listed (Moonlight Archive), I think it merits inclusion because it is one of the more well known fan sites, it features show data (promo photos, episode data) that is provided courtesy of and with approval from CBS, it is used as a reference earlier in the article itself, and it does not engage in copyright infringement like many other sites (by hosting screencaps, etc). --96.24.161.27 (talk) 14:46, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

mythology[edit]

The so called mythology of becoming a vampire, role of a sire, stuff they can be hurt with, how they react to sunlight is not as unique as the article says (this refers also struggle between the human and the beast nature, idea how St. John gets his "food" and much more) It has a lot in common with rpg (story telling) game of Vampire: the mascarade. BTw. read the manuals, a lot of intresting ideas about vampires a lot of them exist in this TV series. Hi, there is a certain similarity but these issues crop up in a lot of other vampire myth retellings as well. While it's not "unique" per se, I'm not convinced it's justified to state that it's based on the Vampire: The Gathering game, either. - I'm going to delete that part. Drinking blood to create vampires goes back to Dracula, not WW. The term sire is specific to WW, but not so completely that they've got it patented. The supposed mythology of becoming a Vampire, appears to come straight out of Interview with a Vampire by Ann Rice, as does a lot of the guilt trip elements.

GA Review[edit]

The article's looking pretty good (an interesting read, too!), and there are just a few things that might need fixing/altering:

Image:Moonlight series.jpg and Image:MoonlightCast.jpg aren't low resolution as they should be per the fair use criteria - could be scaled down a bit.
David Greenwalt joined the staff in May 2007 as showrunner and executive producer alongside Joel Silver; but health reasons forced Greenwalt to leave the series - don't see the need for a semicolon instead of a comma.
Due to the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike, production of the series was halted - maybe give a rough (or not so much) date so the reader knows around what time production was put on hold.
Following the CBS cancellation, Warner Bros. is inquiring with other outlets about their interest in the show.[26] Following the CBS cancellation, Warner Bros. Television inquired with other outlets about their interest in the series - pretty much the same sentence with different tenses. The inquiry is now over, is it not?
Werksman said that Moonlight would be released on DVD sometime in September 2008 - did this ever happen, and/or did he have anything else to say on the matter? It's October now and maybe this needs updating.
On June 23, 2008 a report stated that efforts to sell the show to another network had failed, and the show was permanently canceled - what kind of report, and who authored/published it?
Although he realizes that Beth means quite a bit to him - reads somewhat informally; maybe reword.
Beth Turner, an internet reporter, and St. John's love interest - don't need the second comma as "an internet and St. John's love interest" is one clause. And can he just be "Mick" here, as that's what he's referred to as elsewhere (starting with the line below).
At the beginning of the series, she was dating an assistant district attorney - never use past tense to recount fiction so use "she dates" or "is dating".
Josef Kostan, a centuries old vampire and St. John's mentor and friend - "centuries-old" and "Mick" instead of "St. John" to avoid confusion when switching between names.
Mick becomes desperate in obtaining Coraline's secret to becoming mortal - "desperate to obstain"?
Maybe add Coraline's "Morgan" pseudonym to the Cast and characters section for clarity.
Mick encounters two vampires who are looking for Coraline. Once they leave, Mick visits Josef - Josef isn't introduced (in the plot) until this point so maybe use a simple epithet to describe him like "Mick visits his vampire friend Josef". You can probably come up with a better one than me.
I wouldn't list Anne Rice as "vampire related media"; "Anne Rice's works" might do better.
Tim Goodman of The San Francisco Chronicle considered the series "may well be the worst new fall show" - doesn't make sense; that's like me saying "I consider the series be good".
The dialogue was described as "groan-inducing" - described by whom? This can't stand alone.
The lead claims "the pilot managed to finish first among total viewers and adults 18–49 for its night" but this is never mentioned let alone sourced in the main body of the article.

DVD Already Released[edit]

The DVD of the first season has already been released, I know because I'm watching it right now after I got it for Christmas, it is not a pirate, it came in four discs with each one holding four episodes and the box they came in had proper box art. There is no way the DVD is being released on January 29th, 2009.
