Questionable Historical Data

There are several things that seem wrong with the history presented in this article.

It's debatable whether or not the old Union High School on Casey Rd. was, in fact, Moorpark High School at all. We residents of Moorpark before MHS was built in 1988 only ever referred to the old school as (Memorial) Union High School. If that smacks of original research, see the photo in the link below, with the initials MUHS clearly displayed before the school. Also note, in the reference below, that it was the "new school" that was "officially renamed Moorpark High School". The logical question of how a new school can be renamed is a bother.

If MUHS is to be considered the same school as MHS, then one would think the even earlier high school on Charles St., founded in 1912, would be MHS as well.

Either way, the claim that MHS was founded in 1919 seems suspect. While some planning for the Casey Rd. building may have gone on in 1919 (is there a reference for this claim?), the project was approved and construction begun in 1920, and the school did not begin operations until 1921. Here is a history of the high school(s) in Moorpark.

". . . the community created their own private high school in 1912. The school was housed in the Moorpark Women's Fortnightly Clubhouse on Charles Street . . ."

". . . in February of 1920, Moorpark voters approved a school bond . . . On October 30, 1920, the cornerstone of the Moorpark Memorial Union High School was laid and construction began at a location just northwest of town (the present site of Walnut Canyon School.) This structure served the community of Moorpark until the late 1930's when it was demolished and another school was built in approximately the same location. In the mid-1980's, work began on a new high school on 48 acres of land on Tierra Rejada Road. The new school, now officially renamed Moorpark High School, opened its doors in 1988." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:304:6F02:2FF0:49B1:8A7B:5AB9:624C (talk) 19:51, 13 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
