... that a 2019 poll of Filipino film critics to determine the best Filipino film directed by a woman was topped by Marilou Diaz-Abaya's Moral?Source: Business Mirror article
Created by What a pro. (talk). Self-nominated at 16:44, 9 June 2020 (UTC).
- @What a pro.: New enough and long enough. QPQ present. Earwig doesn't throw any issues and the article looks fine. The hook, while backed up by the source and present, is very, very clunky and demands a total rewrite. I'm gonna throw a suggestion at you: Raymie (t • c) 03:20, 28 June 2020 (UTC)
- ALT1:
that Lorna Tolentino credited her role in 1982 film Moral for expanding her reputation beyond "sexy" movies?[1]- As a Filipino myself I'm not sure if ALT1 will work since she obviously isn't well-known outside the Philippines. Perhaps adding "Filipino actress" before her name might help things but otherwise a different hook may be needed (or perhaps a rewording of ALT0). Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 00:34, 10 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Raymie: The nominator hasn't edited in almost a month so someone else may need to take care of the hook concerns. Perhaps Howard the Duck or Sky Harbor could help out here? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 02:28, 12 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Narutolovehinata5: Hi, I came by to help move this along. I edited the article and it reads well and is interesting. Here are some alts:
- ALT2: ... that Moral, part of a loose trilogy of feminist films directed by Marilou Diaz-Abaya, was initially dismissed by critics but is now regarded as one of the best Filipino films ever made?
- ALT3: ... that the 1982 film Moral, set in the era of Martial Law in the Philippines, explores then-taboo subjects such as homosexuality, marital rape, and the New People's Army?
- ALT4: ... that Filipina director Marilou Diaz-Abaya and screenwriter Ricky Lee regard Moral as one of their most personal film collaborations? Yoninah (talk) 18:43, 14 July 2020 (UTC)

- I'd be fine with any of those, especially ALT2 and ALT3. ALT2 and ALT4 seem to be fine sourcing-wise. I am trying to find the citation that backs up ALT3 as it is not invoked in the right place. Narutolovehinata5, since I do not read Tagalog, is it this passage from the Plaridel source? Raymie (t • c) 19:13, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
- I just checked the source and the quote is indeed there (found with a quick use of CTRL+F). If a translation is needed, it reads something like "I'm not afraid to tackle taboo or rarely-tackled subjects especially in films, such as homosexuality, marital rape, parricide, and others. I entered into different fields of writing: from short stories, songs, and comics, to journalism, theater, and others. What's wrong with making mistakes? Whatever triumphs I have reached now, I am on top of a mountain of mistakes". As for the hooks, I agree that ALT2 and ALT3 are the best and most broadly-appealing hooks, with a slight preference for ALT2. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 23:13, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
- I'm good with ALT2, ALT3 or ALT4, in that order. Raymie (t • c) 01:06, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you. ALT2 is also my favorite. Yoninah (talk) 09:50, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
