The Government of Mauritius only mentions the national anthem is its property but doesn't mention any copyright. I doubt it is illegal to put a national anthem's lyrics in an encyclopedia. Could you provide the source that led you to remove these lyrics specifically and not the lyrics of other national anthems? Thank you. Abjiklam (talk) 00:33, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Unless we have specific proof that the author transmitted the copyright of the lyrics to the country, we have to assume that the copyright is still held by the writer. Since the author, Jean Georges Prosper, was born in 1933, it is doubtful that the 70 years required after his death for his work to fall in the public domain (see here) has passed. He would have had to have died in 1941 at the age of 8, and he did not write this anthem before that point. I could not find a death date, but the rule is that his work will be in the public domain 70 years after his death. Also, in any case, if the copyright was held by the country as the website contends, the website is copyrighted in its entirety without any exception for the anthem lyrics. You would need a specific release under a free license from the Government of Mauritius to use the lyrics. Regards, MacMedtalkstalk 03:11, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I never thought an individual could own the rights to a national anthem but I guess it's possible! Abjiklam (talk) 19:37, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
As of March 2018, Prosper is still living. Beleg Tâl (talk) 18:06, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
