Blank space[edit]

There's some pesky blank space in the lead of the page, but the page is locked. Can this editing mistake be fixed? It's baffling that nobody has taken action yet. 37.47.229.108 (talk) 18:45, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Lead section is too long and detailed[edit]

I think the lead section is far too long and detailed, considering the length of the article. None of the information in the lead section is expanded upon in the body of the article, or even mentioned again. This article is divided by the table of contents. It is as if someone has written a short article above the table of contents and a second one below it, on two different subjects. There is no coherence between the lead section, which is meant to be a short summary, and the article body, which contains the detail. The two parts appear completely disconnected and separate; as a result the State department quoted that appears in the lead totally distracts the reader from the rest of the lead section. This state of affairs is probably due to the way the article has developed, with various sentences accreting more information as time has gone on. The time has come to refactor the lead section and move a lot of the lead detail below the table of contents. All that really needs to be said in the lead section is already contained in the first sentence of the first paragraph and the first two sentences of the second paragraph, including the claim that the organization has been designated a terrorist organisation by the US state department. The rest of the details in the lead section, including that of the details of having terrorist designation and the accompanying quotation can be moved into several new sections in the body of the article. The result would be a short lead having a single paragraph of about 3 sentences. However, due to the current editing status of this article, I am reluctant to just tag it with cleanup tags and move on, so want to discuss this significant change first to see what other editors think. I have already tagged the State Dept. quotation as not being verified in the body, because it doesn't have a specific citation to the source material. Although I suspect the source material has already been cited in the article at the preceding sentence, the source of the quote itself needs to be cited too. But this also points to the deeper problem that the quotation should not be in the lead section in any case and should be moved into the body of the article, along with lots of the other detail in the lead section. Ideally, everything in the lead should be expanded upon in the body of the article and no citations should be needed in the lead. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 02:39, 27 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
