Merge (2009)

[edit]

This should be merged with Local government in Canada.--Grahame (talk) 02:53, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, I don't think so. Local government refers to school boards, etc. (including municipal) whilst this article talks about municipal only. If you are going to merge I think the content from this one should stay as it's obviously the more developed of the two. JulieSpaulding (talk) 12:34, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Charter and Municipal Powers

[edit]

A Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador Decision was posted on the CBC website.[1]. It discusses, among other matters the role of the Charter with respect to voting Rights in Municipal Elections. The applicant is referred to on a biography page: Kurtis Coombs.

Essentially, reference is made to the difference between Constitutional Elections (Federal and Provincial) and "legislatively created" (Municipal) elections.
