@BDD: Can you help here? You closed the discussion as "retarget" (here: Wikipedia:Redirects_for_discussion/Log/2014_April_18#Murica). But, retarget to what? There were sevaral proposals in the discussion. Vanjagenije (talk) 18:25, 10 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Vanjagenije, it was retargeted to Murcia, as suggested in the nomination. Red Slash, I was very surprised to see you edit warring over this. Please use RfD before retargeting this redirect again, as it has proven controversial in the past. --BDD (talk) 19:04, 10 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It's such... I mean, it's a completely absurd redirect as it stands. I note that Murcai, Umrcia, Mrucia, etc. are all currently redlinks; it seems natural that there's no reason for this particular redirect to go straight to a Spanish city. Honestly, I have no idea what could compel someone to change this redirect to the Spanish city while leaving Murcai a redlink. Why is this one special? Red Slash 02:03, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That said, it's been listed. Red Slash 02:13, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • @SimonTrew: Please, don't remove the RfD tag from the page [1] while discussion is still ongoing. Vanjagenije (talk) 21:32, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Vanjagenije: Sorry about that. Actually I made a {{nac}} closure, realised my mistake in the premature evacuation, and so reverted my closure here: but forgot to add back the RfD tag at the R itself. Purely an oversight. Si Trew (talk) 05:12, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Murica is America[edit]

Murica is a much used slang term for America. Redirecting it to a town in Spain for supposed misspelling is a strange way of handling this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.185.92.29 (talk) 07:37, 20 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sources?[edit]

What are the sources, that this is a common misspelling for Murcia? (Those which are not created following Google's AI connecting Murica and Murcia over the redirect...) -- Amtiss, SNAFU ? 14:46, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Of course it's not a common misspelling. The redirect should be linked to America, but I see that this is in turn a redirect to United States of America! So perhaps a redirect to America (disambiguation)? --Jotamar (talk) 16:09, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
With nobody responding, it's time to take action. --Jotamar (talk) 20:17, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Jotamar, I think it is reasonable to take action here: as it was, it was an implausible misspelling, and the term "'Murica" is becoming more and more of a phenomenon, to the extent that it might soon warrant its own article. There is, however, already a redirect to Wiktionary at 'Murica, so I think that might be a better redirect target. --Slashme (talk) 09:42, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
