Protected status?

[edit]

What is the protected status of this animal? 72.153.208.33 (talk) 05:28, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It varies by species - see the individual species articles for more information. Anaxial (talk) 09:00, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

References for "rumor" of aphrodisiac quality of musk

[edit]

I noticed that there is a line in the article which states that it is "rumored" that musk is an aphrodisiac. I'd simply delete the line since it's not stating facts, but it's sourced with an apparent Discovery Channel special with no link to the source material. Anyone else agree this ought to be removed? 66.169.156.178 (talk) 03:59, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to see a better citation, certainly. Anaxial (talk) 18:13, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tusks as weapons?

[edit]

It is claimed without reference that the tusks are used as weapons in mating competition. I can hardly imagine how this would work without biting and inflicting serious injuries. Is it really true? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.22.218.1 (talk) 21:56, 2 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Tusk vs. Tusk-Like

[edit]

The opening paragraph says they have "a pair of tusk-like teeth," implying that they aren't true tusks, even though they resemble tusks. Later, the article simply refers to them as tusks. Are they tusks or aren't they. From the article on tusks, they seem to meet the definition. Can we change the opening paragraph to just say "a pair of tusks"? —MiguelMunoz (talk) 23:48, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Makes sense to me; they are certainly tusks as I understand the term, and we can wiki-link to the article (which also uses that definition) to explain what we mean. Probably just over-caution by some editor, and the shorter phrasing is clearer. I've made the edit. Anaxial (talk) 05:31, 21 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Musk pod

[edit]

Shouldn't the term "musk pod" be mentioned and explained in this article? 173.88.246.138 (talk) 05:14, 30 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
