Name[edit]

Shouldn't this article be Henry Jones III or Mutt Jones? It's pretty obvious at the end that he finally accepted Indy as his father. Marion even stated his name as Henry Jones III. Emperor001 (talk) 21:46, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

But legally he was never Henry Jones since, at least according to the Marion Ravenwood article, they never got married It should most definitely not be Henry Jones III beacuse that would pretty much violate WP:NC(CN); it's for that same reason why it's at Indiana Jones and not Henry Jones, Jr.. For all but the last minute he was legally known as Mutt Williams, and this is reflected in all promotional material released by Lucasfilm and Paramount. I believe, therefore, that Williams would be his most common surname, even if at the end of the film it's changed to Jones. hbdragon88 (talk) 04:01, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
To my knowledge, there's no canonical proof that Mutt adopted or will adopt the name "Jones".
May I point out that he was legally Henry Jones at birth. Marion didn't marry Colin Williams until he was a few years old and there's proof that he even had his name legally changed. Williams could just be part of his nickname as much as Mutt is. Emperor001 (talk) 17:45, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
He starts being called Henry Jones III near the very end of the film. -- MISTER ALCOHOL T C 04:14, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Has anyone ever encountered a source that draws a parallel between the name 'Mutt' and the fact Indiana Jones was named after the dog? It seems an obvious, intentional connection, but I hesitate to add it to the article without some kind of source. BoosterBronze (talk) 16:40, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fear of scorpions[edit]

If you look at one of the scnes in the crystal skull film you can see when mutt is surrounded and frightened by scorpions,Tough it doesnt scare indy.I think that mutt is probably afraid of scorpions like indy who is afraid of snakes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.83.40.224 (talk) 16:21, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

But we don't know if it is because of the situation, also in that same scene, Mutt seems afraid of something that resembles a spider's egg sac. So maybe the character just doesn't like arachnids in general. I'm not going to remove this reference, since we don't have enough information on the character to confirm or deny it yet. Anyway, you might also note that Mutt's grandfather, Henry Jones senior, hated rats. Facer (talk) 18:56, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
He is scared of scorpions, Indy is scared of snakes and Henry Jones, Sr. is scared of rats. -- MISTER ALCOHOL T C 04:15, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New WikiProject Open![edit]

I have finally created a WikiProject for Indiana Jones! Check it out. -- MISTER ALCOHOL T C 20:38, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Common name[edit]

I see that someone has moved it to the completely unwieldly and unworkable Henry "Mutt" Jones, III (Mutt Williams) title. Please. Per WP:NC(CN), this character is commonly referred to "Mutt" throughout the film and in all marketing material and in the common vernacular. Moving it to Henry Jones III would be equivalant of moving Indiana Jones to Henry Jones, Jr. to which nobody would search. hbdragon88 (talk) 22:16, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal[edit]

I come with this proposal to merge Mutt into the List of characters for several reasons. The article is purely a description of the "concept and creation", which is more of a description of how Mutt could overtake Indiana as the lead character of the franchise and other future or possible future installments.

The user who reverted the merger stated that Mutt is "a notable character in a notable film". I do not question the notability of the film. However, the character has not proven such notability. Notability is not inherited, which means that being a character in a notable film does not mean that the character is notable. The article has no sections about deep coverage by reliable secondary sources independent from Indiana Jones. Also, it has no impact in popular culture.

The article itself was not redirected, but merged. Almost all information was merged into the List of characters, including references, so there was little, if any, loss of content. My proposal is to revert back to that version. Thoughts? --LoЯd ۞pεth 03:04, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I take no stand on the issue one way or the other. I reverted the merge because I objected to its being performed without any discussion or even an edit summary explaining the reasons for it. I appreciate Lord Opeth bringing this matter here for discussion. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 00:19, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Since there was no more opposition and no improvement of the article, I shall revert to the merged version. --LoЯd ۞pεth 02:57, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
